Greetings CPS Community…

Happy last week of school! Each year, the last few days are filled with energy, excitement, and reflection on the school year that is coming to a close.

I want to thank our students, families, and staff who make our district a wonderful place to work. Over the last year, we have celebrated proud milestones… and persevered through challenges.

At the beginning of the next school year, we will unveil our new motto that reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that all of our scholars receive a high-quality education that prepares them for a successful future. We can’t wait to share it with you!

But first… I hope you savor the summer sunshine and make many special memories with your families and friends.

If you have a question over the summer, please see our list of contacts that may be helpful to you while our school buildings are closed. (አማርኛ عربي বাংলা Kreyòl ayisyen Español)

Make it Great… I’ll see you in September!

Elementary Math Equity Lab
The Office of Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, the Design Lab, and the Math Department teamed up this year to engage K - 5 educators in a Design Challenge focused on the question: How might we disrupt racial inequity in elementary math classrooms and the related systems?

This year, there were 3 Math Equity Labs: one open to all Elementary School teachers, one for the Elementary Math Specialists (Interventionists), and one at the Baldwin School. Participants came up with a problem related to racial inequity and math identity and achievement, and crafted a design question aligned with that problem. They, then, designed and tried out a prototype connected to the problem they identified. Last week, Equity Lab members shared their prototypes, reflections, and learning with math coaches, school leaders, and other educators in a conversation about math and equity.

Spirit Award Winners
Please join us in congratulating our Girls Ultimate team, which was recently awarded the 2022 Season Spirit Award for Division 2 Girls Ultimate in Massachusetts. The spirit award is voted on by opposing teams and based on five categories: mutual respect, fair play/rules knowledge, body control, communication and joy of play. Coach Erik Sebesta says it is a difficult award to win, especially for a new team with limited rules knowledge and a winning record.
