About the Teaching and Learning Framework

The Office of Academics & Schools led the design of our Teaching and Learning Framework formerly known as the Instructional Framework), one of our 12 focused initiatives in the District Plan. The Teaching and Learning Framework is a blueprint for all students to receive high quality instruction in every classroom, every day, while providing coherence, consistency, and rigor in our students’ learning experience across schools.

The design has been a collaborative process involving all stakeholders. Our Teaching and Learning Framework Design Team is composed of educators, students, school and district leaders, community partners and community members.

During the initial stages of the work, the team identified four phases of our Teaching and Learning Framework: Design, Engage, Teach & Learn, and Reflect, as well as Teacher and Student Practices for each phase.

Foundation of the Teaching and Learning Framework

The Teaching and Learning Framework is rooted in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). MTSS prioritizes a systemic approach for differentiation, academic achievement for all students, maximizing instructional time, and access to High Quality Tier 1 Instruction, including Social Emotional Learning.

With the completion of the framework, the design team will begin implementation of the four phases in the 2023-2024 school year.

Each year will have a specific focus while continuing to offer courses for the previous year. Educators who are new to the district will have access to courses that focus on the previous year’s work. Because the Teaching and Learning Framework is not specific to content, each time we revisit a phase, educators will implement those practices that are current in that phase.
