Dear CPS families, students, and staff -

On behalf of the entire CPS family, we are so excited to welcome you back to school. CPS educators have been working hard to prepare for this school year - the start of the year will focus on helping your children build relationships and classroom communities, establish new routines, and engage in learning!

We all know school will be very different this year. On Wednesday, September 16, all CPS students will begin the year as remote learners. Next month, some students will begin in-person learning while following new safety procedures. We’ll share more information soon about these new safety procedures. We’ll all be learning together as we face new challenges during this unprecedented time.

Check out the updated CPS Back-to-School site.

Below, you’ll find some updates on:
  • Reminder: Complete Your Annual Forms
  • Saturday, Sept 19 - CPS Family Resource Fair
  • Food Resources, including CPS Breakfast and Lunch Program

Additional Updates
Reminder: Complete Your Annual Forms: Don’t forget to complete your Annual Forms, including the student health form.

Saturday, Sept 19 - CPS Family Resource Fair: Families with preschoolers through first graders are invited to join Mayor Siddiqui, the School Committee, and CPS this Saturday, September 19 outside the Peabody School, 70 Rindge Avenue to get information about the Back-to-School, get technology help, and take home books, backpacks and other resources. Masks required and social distancing rules apply. The next fair will be September 26 (Haggerty School 110 Cushing Street).

CPS Grab-and-Go Breakfast & Lunch Meals: Daily 12 - 1PM: Starting today, CPS will provide grab-and-go breakfast and lunch meals every weekday from 12 - 1PM at 15 distribution sites across the city. Meals are FREE for all Cambridge students. More details here.

DHSP Update on afterschool, community schools, and youth centers: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the limitations of occupying indoor spaces in schools and other buildings, the Department of Human Service Programs will not be operating any of its usual programs for school-age children in school or city buildings (Afterschool programs, Community School programs, King Open Extended Day and Youth Centers) this fall.

DHSP is currently engaged in a department-wide planning process to re-imagine and re-configure our programs for children and families. Using data it has received from family surveys to inform its programming, DHSP efforts are focused in 4 areas:

  • Outdoor Activities (beginning September 21)
  • Virtual Enrichment/SEL (coming in October)
  • Family & Individual Support (coming in October)
  • (possible) In-person Support for Virtual Learning

Details and updates for each model will be emerging in the coming days and weeks. Please contact Michelle Farnum, Assistant Director for Children, Youth and Families with questions.

U.S. Census Due September 30: Don’t Forget!
Fill out your census at 2020census.gov. The last day to respond is September 30.
