Greetings CPS Community!

I hope you are having a wonderful summer and soaking in the sunshine!

We wanted to share a quick update and some reminders. Last week, the Executive Leadership Team had some energizing and meaningful time together, not only preparing for the school year, but also planning for the next few years as we continue to develop our district plan.

We are also working very closely with the city to improve equitable access to universal pre-k (UPK). The Cambridge Office of Early Childhood (formerly known as Birth to 3) will continue to lead this work. The UPK Leadership Team, which is composed of city and school leadership, has been developed and in the fall, we look forward to sharing much more with you about the implementation of UPK. Our collaboration with the Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) also continues as we support families with their after school care needs. We look forward to sharing more about this in the coming weeks.

I am delighted that we have selected individuals for three key executive leadership positions. Earlier this month, I shared a little bit about each of them. If you missed that communication, you can find it here.

We have received some questions about COVID mitigation measures that will be in place for the new school year. We will continue to monitor the data and collaborate with the Cambridge Public Health Department regarding any decisions. We assure you those will be communicated in a timely manner.

Please note that the next School Committee meeting will be on Tuesday, August 9.

Make it Great!

Dr. Victoria L. Greer

P-EBT Contacts

Students who received Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT) in the past or were approved for free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch Program, are eligible to receive P-EBT this summer. P-EBT funds help you buy food for your student and family.

How will I get Summer P-EBT?

  • If you received P-EBT in the past: Check the EBT or P-EBT card you already have for funds. If you do not have your P-EBT card, request a new one at MAp-EBT.org. P-EBT cards are only available by mail.
  • If you are new to P-EBT: Check your mail for a P-EBT card or look for funds on the EBT card you already have.
  • If you have questions about P-EBT: Call the Department of Transitional Assistance helpline at: 877-382-2363.

If needed, the CPS Food & Nutrition Office can provide a copy of the letter you previously received stating your student(s) qualified for free or reduced-priced meals. Please call the Food & Nutrition Office at 617-349-6858, stating your student(s)’ name, and an email address to send a copy of the letter to.

Need more food help? Get P-EBT, SNAP, WIC, and Summer Eats together to boost your food budget. Contact the Project Bread FoodSource Helpline at 1-800-645-8333.

Summer Reading 2022

Summer reading is an important part of reducing summer learning loss, providing a foundation for student success, and instilling a joy of reading. Students in grades JK-7 received books that include fiction and informational, culturally relevant texts that reflect students’ interests, spark imagination, and keep them on their path to becoming lifelong readers.
