Curriculum and Instruction

Curriculum & Instruction
The Office of Curriculum & Instruction helps to ensure that the Cambridge Public Schools, in partnership with our families and community, provides all students with rigorous, joyful, and culturally responsive learning, as well as the social, emotional, and academic supports each student needs to achieve their goals and postsecondary success as engaged community members. As educators in a learning organization engaged in continuous improvement, we will demonstrate a growth mindset and embrace risk-taking and innovation.

We promote collaboration among educators within and across schools, levels, and content areas to design, implement, and support learning experiences that make authentic connections across disciplines, are meaningful and relevant to our students, our community, and our world, and lead to growth in student understanding.

To do this, the office provides leadership in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional learning with direct supervision of the following academic departments: Educational TechnologyEnglish Language ArtsEnglish Language LearnersHistory & Social ScienceLibrary MediaMathematicsPhysical EducationHealth & WellnessScienceVisual & Performing Arts; and World Language

The team of JK-12 curriculum and program coordinators, in collaboration with principals, instructional coaches, and educators, lead the district’s curriculumdevelopment in alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks

, we strive for high expertise teaching that focuses on management, instructional strategies, motivation, and curriculum planning.

We believe that assessment is the process of gathering evidence of student understanding to inform instructional decisions and that assessments support the work of effective educators in continually observing, probing, investigating, analyzing and responding to their students' thinking and performance.

Effective professional learning is student-centered, collaborative and transformative for educators and their students. We provide a variety of resources for educators, including professional learning, new teacher induction, research, assessment & evaluation, and program development & grants.
