PerlBooked @ the Baldwin
The Baldwin School has hosted two author visits this past month. First graders were treated to a visit with Janice Dean, The FOX 25 Weather Machine and author of Froggy the Frogcaster books. Librarian Karin Kugel reports that Baldwin first graders have recently been studying weather, so Ms. Dean’s visit fit well as a curriculum tie-in. Read more >>

Cambridgeport 4th graders participated in a Skype author visit with Rukhsana Kahn recently. Prior to the visit, students did an author study of Rukhsana Kahn in library. Teachers also used her books as mentor texts in the classroom. 
During their library time, 4th 
graders got to hear about her 
inspiration for The Big Red Lollipop and King for a Day. According 
to librarian Liz Soeiro, “It was

AviAvi Visits Graham & Parks
Avi, the award-winning author of some 75 books, talked with first-fifth grade students at Graham & Parks on March 19th. Librarian Ann Niederkorn reports that Avi spoke about his family, life in his tiny (population 13!) town in Colorado, his experiences as a student, and how all of these experiences have shaped her work as a writer. OutlawHappenings @ Haggerty

Author Erica Perl, skyped with the Haggerty fourth grade book club to discuss her book When Life Gives You O.J. Librarian Sarah Novogrodsky reported that Ms. Perl, “told us about her inspiration for the book and for many of the book’s characters, including the crazy grandpa, Ace.” Students shared their Chatterpix creations with Ms. Perl. Using the Chatterpix app to draw a mouth on a photograph and then record audio was a perfect tie-in activity with Ms. Perl’s book. Read more >>

OlympiansGeorge O’Connor Visits Cambridge
At the end of April, approximately 200 Cambridge elementary students from the Baldwin, Graham & Parks, Morse, and Tobin schools will be treated to a visit by author/illustrator George O’Connor. George O’Connor’s popular The Olympians series retells Greek myths in a graphic novel format. This visit, to be held at Cambridge Public Library, is a special release event for George O’Connor’s newest book, and each student in attendance will receive a copy of the new book to take home!
