Equity Collaborative

Congratulations to Spring 2022 Equity Collaborative participants for their community-driven work that addressed racism, inequity, injustice, and oppression in Cambridge Public Schools.

Since 2019, the Superintendent’s Office has funded equity-based projects through an initiative called The Equity Collaborative. The Equity Collaborative provides funds for students, educators, and caregivers to advance community-driven work to address racism, inequity, injustice, and oppression in Cambridge Public Schools.

Here are the reports from the Spring 2022 Equity Collaborative Projects!

Criteria for Success

A successful Equity Collaborative project included…

  • A clear definition of “equity” for you and how this project uplifts the voices and needs of those in the margins
  • Demonstrated gap/need that shows awareness/research of existing work so that we don’t recreate the wheel (e.g. Is it researched and/or evidenced based? What gap/need is being addressed? How does it connect to the CPS Inaugural Equity Plan and other CPS initiatives?)
  • Own definition of success for the project and how you measure the impact on community
  • A budget plan

CPS Definitions of Equity and Racial Equity
In 2019, the Administration and School Committee adopted definitions of equity and racial equity.

Equity means that each student, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, religion, or socioeconomic status will have access to the opportunities, resources, and support they need to attain their full potential.

Racial Equity means the absence of institutional and structural barriers experienced by people based on race or color, that impede access, opportunities, and results.

Achieving racial equity requires proactive and continuous investment in communities of color, who have endured centuries of systemic oppression. CPS is committed to dismantling structures rooted in white privilege, to hearing and elevating underrepresented voices, and recognizing and eliminating bias.
