Good News! Teachers/Staff Eligible for Vaccines

vaccination graphicDear CPS Community -

We’re writing to share good news about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Governor Baker announced this morning that beginning March 11, preK-12 educators and staff will be eligible to schedule to receive vaccines at any of Massachusetts’ 170 vaccination sites. He also shared that the state’s Command Center will also identify specific days designated for educators/school staff. Governor Baker emphasized as part of his announcement this morning that appointment availability will be dependent on the federally-provided supply of vaccines, which are currently limited.

President Biden announced yesterday that all states must prioritize all educators, school staff, and childcare workers to receive the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of March. To help states do this, a federal pharmacy program will prioritize vaccinating all school staff, and childcare workers during the month of March along with previously established priority groups. As of this morning, the CVS COVID-19 appointment site notes that K-12, preschool and childcare staff are eligible to make appointments, but there are no appointments currently available.

CPS will work closely with the Cambridge Public Health Department, Cambridge Education Association, and the other unions serving CPS employees to provide staff with information about vaccine distribution and appointments.

We are cautiously optimistic about this news and we will share more information as soon as we have it.

In the meantime, we encourage everyone in the CPS community to continue to practice COVID-19 safety:
  • Mask Up
  • Wash your hands
  • Keep distance from others
  • Participate in COVID-19 testing
Brighter and warmer days are ahead.

Sincerely,

Kenneth N. Salim, Ed.D.
Superintendent
