CPS’s First Day Back In-Person

CPS’s First Day Back In-Person
Posted on 10/13/2020
Dear CPS families, students and staff,

I wanted to send a quick note to acknowledge the districtwide effort to welcome back some of our youngest students and students in specialized programs in-person. Even today’s rain couldn’t dampen the festive atmosphere at our schools and above the masks, we could see the joy in the eyes of students and educators as they settled into their classrooms. This would not have been possible without the hours of planning, preparing, and coordinating by teachers and staff and the cooperation and flexibility of our students and families. You should all be proud of your efforts.

Today demonstrates a tremendous step forward for CPS and our students. Although it’s not what school typically looks like, our commitment to our students was on full display in our school buildings today. Our teachers creatively kept our students socially distant by encouraging “mummy” arms as they walked in hallways to their classrooms. At lunchtime, we continued our grab-and-go distribution for our remote learners, while inside our buildings some of our students had their lunch specially delivered by their principal. In case you missed it, here’s a glimpse of school buildings set up.

I especially want to recognize the efforts of our principals for leading their school teams to success today as well as our facilities and custodial teams for preparing our buildings and classrooms.

Now that we have students back in school, we must continue following our protocols for wearing masks, staying socially distant and staying home if we feel sick. Check out the “What Should I Do? A Daily Health Checklist and Responses to Different COVID Situations.” It was wonderful to see students today and I look forward to seeing students both in our buildings and on-line in virtual classrooms in the weeks ahead.

Finally, as a reminder, Wednesday, October 13 is a REMOTE LEARNING DAY for all students, like all Wednesdays.

Sincerely,

Kenneth N. Salim, Ed.D.
Superintendent
