Message from Superintendent Greer: June 21, 2022
Posted on 06/21/2022

Greetings CPS Community!

I hope you had a restful long weekend. There were so many wonderful in-person celebrations in recognition of Juneteenth and I hope you were able to participate.

We will honor our 8th graders this Thursday, Friday, and next Monday as they leave middle school and move on to high school. I am excited to see the smiles on their faces and learn of their many accomplishments as we celebrate this milestone.

At tomorrow’s School Committee meeting, I will make a formal recommendation to the School Committee to appoint the permanent Assistant Superintendent of Student Services. We look forward to sharing more with you about this individual and their background following the official appointment. We are also in the final phase of interviews for the Chief of Academics and Schools and the Chief Talent Officer. We look forward to making those announcements by the end of the month.

I am delighted to announce that CRLS Assistant Principal, Bobby Tynes, has been named the interim Principal for the Fletcher Maynard Academy. Mr. Tynes has served as AP for 16 years, supporting the CRLS community in countless ways. He is poised to lead FMA and we look forward to supporting him in his transition over the summer.

Thank you for your engagement and continued support.

Make it Great!

Dr. Victoria L. Greer

New RSTA Executive Director Named

Following a comprehensive search and interview process, we are delighted to announce that Ms. Linda Radzvilla will join Cambridge Public Schools as the new Executive Director of the Rindge School of Technical Arts (RSTA) effective Monday, July 18. Ms. Radzvilla will lead the expansion of our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, offering students a standards-driven, comprehensive, high-quality experience that will prepare them for post-secondary success.

Ms. Radzvilla is currently the Assistant Principal of Career Technical and Agricultural Programs at Norfolk County Agricultural High School, where she coordinates all internships and supervises adult education. During her tenure, she has expanded partnerships with several local businesses to increase cooperative education work sites for students. Ms. Radzvilla also chairs the district’s Instructional Leadership Team. Prior to her current role, she was the Principal of the Innovation Academy at the Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School. She holds two Bachelor’s degrees in Food Service Education and Food Service Management from Johnson and Wales University and a Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College.

We have no doubt Ms. Radzvilla will be a tremendous asset to RSTA and CPS. Please join me in welcoming her to the district.

School Councils

The Family Engagement Office, in collaboration with a working group of caregivers and staff, undertook the creation of the first CPS School Council Handbook.

A School Council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the Principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students. The School Council improves student outcomes by engaging its community in site-based decision-making to develop a shared vision of the school. The School Council Handbook is a work in progress and will be updated every couple of years with feedback from the community.

A virtual Communications and Community Relations Sub-Committee meeting to discuss school councils will be held this Thursday at 7PM.

Summer Reading 2022

Summer Reading activities and resources are now available!

Summer reading is an important part of reducing summer learning loss, providing a foundation for student success, and instilling a joy of reading. This summer, to improve access to summer reading books, CPS will provide books for students that will be distributed at their schools. Students in grades JK-7 will receive books that include fiction and informational, culturally relevant texts that reflect students’ interests, spark imagination, and keep them on their path to becoming lifelong readers.

Congratulations to Our 2022 Super Seniors!

Each year, Cambridge Rindge & Latin School graduates about 500 ambitious, interesting, funny, dedicated and spirited young people into the real world. On average, 92 percent of each graduating class heads off to a two- or four-year college, university, or technical school.

Every new graduate has a story to share. Here are a few, some of whom were chosen on the merits of their academic standing and some for the way in which they embody the school motto of Opportunity, Diversity, and Respect.

Caught Doing Good

Graham & Parks 5th Graders WOW with Clay Tile Creations!

All of Graham & Parks School's 62 5th graders took part in a clay tile project through a grant from the Cambridge Arts Council.

Emily Newmann, an art therapist and potter at Mudflat, received the grant, which supported her work with the students. Ms. Newmann helped them create clay tiles that reflect their experiences during the pandemic. She worked closely with art teacher, Ms. Trail, to help the children think about the pandemic and the feelings they experienced.

Mudflat supported this project through providing materials and firing the tiles. A celebration of the mosaic installation in the school's courtyard was held last week. Beautiful job, kids!
