School made history in 2015 as the first public school in the nation to achieve accreditation

Cambridge Public Schools (CPS) is proud to share that the American Montessori Society’s (AMS) Board of Directors has approved the Tobin Montessori School’s re-accreditation. The Tobin Montessori School initially achieved accreditation in 2015, making it the first AMS-accredited, district-level public school (Children’s House through Upper Elementary) in the United States.

“This accomplishment is a true testament to the commitment of our Tobin educators,” said Superintendent Dr. Victoria L. Greer. “Without them, this would not be possible. We are grateful for the rich instruction they provide to our students on a daily basis.”

The re-accreditation follows a months-long process that included a self-study and report, onsite visit with peers from other AMS-accredited schools, and review by the AMS School Accreditation Commission and AMS Board of Directors. In the final report, the Accreditation Team Chair wrote, in part, “Faculty and staff at Tobin Montessori School are exceptional; they hold fast to their Montessori principles and work tirelessly to ensure that the Montessori pedagogy stays true while also ensuring that the state standards are met and often, surpassed.”

In a message to staff, Principal Jaime Frost wrote, in part, “Thank you to everyone for all of your hard work and dedication. Tobin Montessori is a very special school, and it is due to the efforts of each and every one you!”.

Teachers at the Tobin Montessori School hold Massachusetts licenses as well as Montessori Certification. You can learn more about the Tobin Montessori School on our website.
