Drew-class-ponding21.jpgThe Thomas M. Maynard Ecology Center is a Cambridge Public Schools science education resource located near the Fresh Pond Reservation in West Cambridge. The Center is an informal science-learning environment used to provide field trips that allow students to explore the Fresh Pond Reservation and Black’s Nook Pond. These investigations enhance and support the Cambridge Science Curriculum and are aligned with the Massachusetts Science Technology/Engineering Framework.

Curriculum field investigations include:

  • First Grade – BirdSleuths (to begin 2023-2024)
  • Second Grade – Life in a Rotting Log
  • Third Grade – Charles River Explorations
  • Fourth Grade – Earth’s Changing Story
  • Fifth Grade – Alewife Engineered Wetland
  • Sixth Grade – Charles River Water Sampling
  • Seventh Grade – The Alewife Ecosystem
  • Eighth Grade – Why is Life on Earth So Diverse?
