From the Chief Information Officer: November 2014

There are so many great things going on in ICTS through out the district I find it difficult to select one topic. Instead I thought I’d provide and overview of some of the ongoing projects and work.

Active projects in development include;

  • A new transportation management software package with full implementation expected in the fall 2015
  • Improvements to the Electronic Registrar to facilitate the districts' new
professional development initiatives
  • Final implementation of Novatime as an online staff time and attendance system
  • Initial roll out of “Follow Me Printing” to allow for secure printing anywhere
  • Staff ID badge implementation and maintenance

Work continues in the area of student privacy. We continue to review and revise our practices to ensure the best possible balance of technology adoption and student privacy. We are also exploring ways in which CPS can be more transparent to staff, students and parents in the collection of student data. A number of policies and procedures related to student data privacy have also been updated including; technology use guidelines, student records policy, and the media release procedure. If you have any questions on these updates please be sure to ask any ICTS staff member.

With the King/Putnam Ave Upper Campus school scheduled to open in September 2015 we are working closely with the architects and contractors to ensure the
technology infrastructure, design and tools are best aligned to our staff and
students needs.

ASPEN continues to be customized and additional functionality rolled out across the district. This school year the student and parent portals are being introduced
in all upper campus schools.

Improvements to the district wide communication tools including a new content management system, new e-newsletters, and improved messaging options provide
a wealth of tools to engage the greater CPS community.

At the same time ongoing improvements to the technical infrastructure (bandwidth, wireless, firewall, filtering, servers etc...) continue to ensure the district has adequate capacity to employ all required tools and resources to support teaching & learning.
