Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Diversity brings depth and richness to the educational environment of Cambridge Public Schools. Research indicates that students gain substantial academic, social, and other educational benefits when provided with diverse educators and role models.

The Cambridge Public Schools’ 3D: Dynamic Diversity Development initiative is aimed towards renewing our commitment to sustaining a workplace and learning environment that is welcoming, accepting, and free of discrimination for all--regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, disability, genetic information, gender identity or age.

Building Community

In addition to recruitment, CPS is committed to ensuring that staff members from historically marginalized communities feel welcomed and included once they choose to join our district. In May 2018, CPS facilitated the development of Employee Resource Groups, sometimes known as “affinity groups.” These groups are led by educators around areas of shared identity such as race, ethnicity, disability, and sexual orientation. Each of these groups is educator-led and supported by central administration, allowing for each community to grow, develop, and determine their own path.

Any employee who is not an administrator may join or start an Employee Resource Group -- simply contact Ramon for more information. Among the benefits of participating:

  • Connecting with others with similar needs in order to help push innovation, both internally and externally
  • Providing increased support for professional development and leadership opportunities
  • Expanding recruitment efforts to be more inclusive
  • Feeling part of a community with others with shared backgrounds, facing similar challenges
