In addition to recruitment, CPS is committed to ensuring that staff members from historically marginalized communities feel welcomed and included. Employee Resource Groups, (sometimes known as affinity groups) provide a space for mutual support and connection around areas of shared identity such as race, ethnicity, disability, and sexual orientation. Although supported by central administration, these groups are led by educators, allowing each community to grow, develop, and determine their own path. Among the benefits of participating:
- Connecting with others with similar needs in order to help push innovation, both internally and externally
- Providing increased support for professional development and leadership opportunities
- Expanding recruitment efforts to be more inclusive
- Feeling part of a community with others with shared backgrounds, facing similar challenges
