The Village: Our Joy is Powerful
Vision
Our vision is of an anti-racist district that works in partnership and shared ownership with caregivers of color, co-creating authentic environments that unleash the capacity of our young people, caregivers, and system.
Mission
The Village will contribute to this by:
- Promoting caregiver of color leadership, centering the program creation and decision-making of these caregivers
- Creating mechanisms for equity that enable effortless access to resources and two-directional dialogue with structures of power
- Nurturing communities of belonging that enable healing, the development of trusting relationships, and joy
- Building on current caregiver skills and capacity, recognizing that these are in support of children’s empowerment, well-being and achievement
In order to benefit young people.
Principles
In our shared work towards this mission and vision, we are:
- Family-centered: putting the needs, values, and perspectives of families at the core of all work
- Anti-racist: acknowledging that systems, organizations, and structures are racist and actively seeking
to dismantle racist practices and behaviors
- Transparent: providing straightforward information about how The Village operates
- Respectful: operating with respect for the wisdom and experiences of caregivers of colors
- Inclusive: intentionally building belonging for all people
- Joyful: valuing and centering joy
- Healing-centered: creating safe spaces
- Strengths-based: acknowledging and building from the assets and knowledge of our caregivers of color
