Tragic Loss in CPS Community

Tragic Loss in CPS Community
Posted on 02/24/2021
Dear CPS community -

It is with profound sadness that I write to let you know about the tragic death of a dear member of our community - Sina Ball, a Cambridge Rindge and Latin 10th grader and a graduate of Putnam Avenue Upper School. Sina’s family confirmed that she passed away from suicide and permitted us to share this information with the CPS community.

Sina was well liked and well respected. Her passing is a devastating loss. CRLS and PAUS have coordinated resources and plans to support both remote and in-person students and staff.

For families who may be looking for support talking with their child about this news, you may find this brief guide from Riverside Trauma Center and Samaritans helpful. Riverside also offers a 24-hour assistance by calling 1-888-851-2451 and selecting option #2 to be connected to a Trauma Center Manager.

I know the CPS community will come together, as we always do, to support each other through difficult times such as these. Please do not hesitate to contact your principal or your child’s school counselor if you have any concerns or questions.

Sincerely,

Kenneth N. Salim
Superintendent
