CPS Meals Update - Register Requests

March 16, 2020

Dear CPS Families:

I am writing with an update about today’s launch of the CPS Emergency Closure Meals Program, which CPS launched this afternoon, serving 764 meals to 382 families on our first day. We expect this number will grow as closures continue.

Overall things went smoothly and we learned a lot from our trial run. We are already working on improvements including increasing vegetarian and halal-friendly options. This was a massive effort, undertaken in a short period of time, and we should all be proud of our community for making this possible.

Special thanks to:

  • Director of Food and Nutrition Services Mellissa Honeywood, Supervisor of Transportation Tina Fisher, Operations Assistant Joanne Johnson and Director of Facilities Vedad Konjic for their work to kick off this program
  • Kitchen staff of the Food Services Department for arriving at work before 6 am this morning to make sure that they had sufficient time to prepare the meals
Family liaisons and Community Engagement Team outreach workers who have been supporting outreach - some even working alongside volunteers at our distribution sites
  • Bus drivers who worked flexibly and with positivity as volunteers and staff loaded and unloaded meals throughout the day
  • The dedicated staff and volunteers of Food For Free, who were instrumental in ensuring safety and health standards at all distribution sites
Chief Operating Officer Jim Maloney for leading this effort.
  • To assist us in planning and distributing meals, we are asking families to complete a Meal Request form daily by 8AM. You can help us plan for tomorrow by completing this form now.
