It’s a new school year, and Cambridge Public Schools (CPS) has a new look! Our new logo and refreshed branding seek to capture the energy of our vision of rigorous, joyful, and culturally responsive learning + personalized support. We hope that you will recognize concepts of diversity, strength, unity, collaboration, and student success within our new design. In contrast to our previous, text-based logo, we want to communicate a greater sense of place – the uniqueness of our Cambridge community, rich with technology and the arts.
Our logo is inspired by the idea of individuals coming together. Whether students or adults, abstract figures are arranged in a circle that creates the letter “C” for Cambridge. The pattern of circles can be understood to be stylized human figures, or students at desks facing toward one another for discussion. The collaborative, welcoming, and community-oriented culture of CPS is evoked through a circular orientation that represents unity and diversity as many parts create the whole. There is also a suggestion of a sparkling star bursting outwards.
Our color palette is a joyful mix of colors arranged in rainbow order, but the use of secondary colors is more sophisticated – and more appropriate for schools with older students. The diverse colors convey a sense of the uniqueness of individual identities coming together around a shared purpose. The broad palette lends itself to versatility in its application on our website and in print and digital marketing/communications materials.
Stay tuned for our refreshed website – it will go live soon!
