From the Chief Information Officer, Steve Smith: June 2019

As the 2018-19 school year winds down, I continue to be amazed by the level of commitment I see in all ICTS staff. All ICTS staff members have contributed to a very successful year throughout the district. There were too many accomplishments to list them all but here are a few highlights from this past school year;

  • The expansion of the CRLS Connects program to ALL CRLS students grade 9-12. The Chromebook 1:1 program has been a huge undertaking and a huge success.

  • The converging of all stored media from multiple sources onto a new Video On Demand and streaming service in the Media Arts Studio.

  • Converted the Family Contact Books into an online only system known as “FamilyBook”. Saves paper and allows families to opt-in/out and update their info in real-time. Also provides staff an ability to print out a version for those without internet access.

  • In partnership with Porter Square Books and the Porter Square Books Foundation, this school year hosted five different author visits reaching a total of 629 K-8 CPS students in a combined eleven CPS elementary or
    upper schools as well as two author visits for at least 200 CRLS students were held. At each of these author visits, all students in attendance were given a free, signed copy of the author’s newest book, courtesy of the
    Porter Square Books Foundation.

  • The replacement of the district CORE Network equipment and further virtualizing of 90% of CPS servers in the network operations center.

  • The creation and maintenance of the Data Dashboard

  • Preparation of CSUS/KO for reopening in the fall

Lastly, the entire CPS community should be proud of our work to ensure our
students’ safety online. Our work in vetting online applications has now been
replicated in 25 states and 4 countries via the Student Data Privacy Consortium.

Have a great summer!
