Students will engage in rigorous, joyful, culturally responsive math learning investigations aligned to grade 8 standards. Grade 8 students will study math applications to increase competencies on grade level standards.
Including work with “number puzzles”using diagrams and/or writing equations. Students will engage in the common core mathematical practices to write and solve equations.
The math and coding session, a program of the Alliance powered by the Young People’s Project, will include 90 minute session where students explore 3 areas:
- computational thinking and coding fundamentals,
- how to solving real world problems using mathematics and computer programming, and
- content facilitation.
Students will learn bite-sized industry level skills by leveraging their own mathematical experiences and be able to explain the computer programs they develop. The coding language students will learn to use is Python.
Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Camp may include student MBTA passes and raffle prizes for participation.
