August 15, 2023
Dear HSEP Families and Students,
We are excited to welcome students back on September 5, 2023 for HSEP’s 20th school year! We are bringing back our largest group of students in my time as Principal and it will be so good to see many familiar faces walk through the doors in just a few weeks.
I wanted to share some staffing changes with you that have occurred since the end of the school year. We are welcoming two new teachers to HSEP. Anays Baez is joining us as our math teacher. She has spent the past several years as a math teacher at Cambridge Street Upper School and brings with her strengths in instruction, developing relationships with students and equity and inclusion. We are very excited to have her on our team! Kateryna Korolkova will be joining us as a new ELA teacher. She is coming to us from Chelsea High School where she taught ELA and was a member of the Education pathway program. Kateryna comes highly regarded and was even an alternative school student in New York.
Josh Feinberg will join our team as the new Spanish teacher, replacing Ibrahim Dagher who will return to CRLS. Mr. Feinberg has taught at CRLS the past few years and is also an AVID teacher. Samuel Matson will transition from his position as Math teacher to a full-time role with our Bridge Academy program, which focuses on students who are in need of an evening schedule that focuses on hybrid learning.
Our schedule for the fall is also changing slightly. Students will still report to school from 9:30AM to 3PM. Students will take three (3) 50 minute courses Monday through Friday and also have an 80 minute block Monday through Thursday during period 4. Every Friday students will be dismissed at 12:30PM so staff are able to participate in professional development. We will share more information about student work expectations during those hours on Friday as the year gets closer.
During the first week of school, September 5-September 8 all students will be dismissed at 12PM. We will be doing activities to build connections between staff and students and amongst students to kick off the year and academics will begin with a full day of classes on Monday, September 11th. We will have activities both inside and outside of the school building. A schedule will be sent out via ParentSquare on the first day of school for outside activities. Also, please look out for a phone call, email or text from your student’s advisor at the beginning of school to schedule a listening conference!
This year is going to be tremendous and we are glad to be partners in this journey with you and your child!
Sincerely,
Ryan Souliotis
Principal
