Green Hero

BillyK.jpgThe Green Hero Award given every month is a program of the Cambridge Green Schools Initiative (CGSI), and the honor is given to individuals or groups who are making a significant contribution or impact towards environmental sustainability in the Cambridge Public School District. The honor is given by the school department’s Office for Sustainability.

The Green Hero for the month of May 2013 goes to Billy Korecki, a dedicated custodian at Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School.

Billy has worked hard to recycle a lot of different materials at the high school, and he has gone above and beyond in picking up recycling in the hallways and coordinating efforts with his colleagues. Recycling and composting are a vital part of the high school's efforts to reduce waste and partake in the Cambridge Green Schools Initiative. As our biggest school by far, it is through the supportive efforts of our custodians and Billy that we get as much waste as we can diverted from the high school to the recycling center or compost farms, rather than having that waste go to a landfill or incinerator.

Thank you, Billy, for your hard work and environmental leadership!
