The New Aquatics Program

The New Aquatics Program
Posted on 04/02/2018
Guard ChairThough it is not brand new this year, the Wellness Department at CPS has devoted time and effort in developing an all new Aquatics program since 2015. Much of the work thus far includes offering Elementary and Secondary PE/Wellness staff Professional Development in teaching Aquatics skills. As well, our focus has been to create new, American Red Cross courses that aim to encourage our students to participate and learn more about water safety and life-saving, aquatic skills. Some of our courses include a 4th grade swim unit, 9th grade swim unit, Adapted/Autistic Spectrum Disorder PE/Swim Course, PE/Wellness Swim Development Elective, Lifeguarding Elective and a Water Safety Instructor Elective.

To meet the needs of varying students, our schedule offers AM sections (before school) and during the school day for most of these courses. At CRLS, our students have the opportunity to take the higher level, American Red Cross certification courses for free and over the length of a semester which allows students more pool practice time to get comfortable with the course content before applying for jobs in our community.
