Massachusetts Harvest for Students Week

Massachusetts Harvest for Students Week

This year Cambridge Public Schools Food and Nutrition department is participating in the 7th annual Massachusetts Harvest for Students Week.

By participating, CPS joins a large list of school districts and colleges throughout the commonwealth who commit to highlight products grown within Massachusetts. The week of September 30th through October 4th every Cambridge school kitchen is offering menu items prepared with local ingredients. Here is a list of the nearby farms that will be bringing fresh goods to our schools:

  • Joe Czajkowski’s Farm (Hadley, MA)- providing carrots for our carrot sticks
  • Lanni Orchards (Lunenburg, MA)- providing Apples and Pears for our fresh fruit offering
  • Long Plain Farm (South Deerfield, MA)- providing Peppers for our Veggie Pizza
  • Szawlowski Farm (Hatfield, MA) – providing the spuds for our Red Roasted Potatoes
  • Williams Farm (Hadley, MA) – providing corn straight from the cob

We may even see some fresh herbs from the various CitySprouts school gardens right here in Cambridge. Food and Nutrition services is committed to providing fresh, wholesome, and sustainable food options to the students of Cambridge, and by purchasing products grown right here in Massachusetts we’re also showing support for the farmers that work hard to feed us year round.

If you want to bring some local flavor home to your kitchen table, check out a farmer’s market near you or visit a nearby farm for some autumnal harvest fun!
