COVID-19 Preparedness

The safety and health of our students, families, and community is our highest priority. No cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) have been identified within our schools, and we will keep you informed of any changes and key updates. In the meantime, CPS is posting updates around the clock on our new coronavirus website. Please take a moment to learn how we are preparing, and what you can do to help >>

Estimadas Familias

Atentamente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Directora

Dear Families

In the midst of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, I want to reiterate that the safety and health of our students and staff is a top priority. In addition to weekly joint updates from Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) and Cambridge Public Schools (CPS), the district launched a new web page designed to keep our community informed of the actions we are taking to reduce risks and respond to the current outbreak. I encourage you to visit the page for any updates you may want on our preparedness. I also want to underline the importance of having accurate information during moments like these where fear often fuels behavior. There have been reports of anti-Asian and anti-immigrant bias and I can’t highlight enough the fact that this is unacceptable. We cannot make jokes or racist comments towards members of any community. Any individual of any race could be susceptible to COVID-19 and in moments like these we need to come together around our shared values of compassion, perseverance and integrity. As families, I encourage you to read the article “Speaking up Against Racism Around the New CoronaVirus” from Teaching Tolerance and discuss it at home.

Last weekend our upper school debate team had great success in the district debate tournament. In the category of team debate, Lila Rosenberg and Daniela Montorzi won first place and Sebastian Prasanna and Elena Montalvo Ramirez won second place. In the individual debate, first Place went to Daniela Montorzi, second place to Sebastian Prasanna and fourth place to Lila Rosenberg. A big thank you goes out to our debate team coach, Mr. Civiello. Please join me in congratulating them all for their hard work

At the Amigos School, we celebrate our students' bilingualism and biliteracy with an 8th grade capstone trip to New York City. For three days and two nights, our 8th graders explore the cultural heritage of different Hispanic immigrant groups through museum visits in Spanish, exploration of Spanish Harlem, restaurant adventures, theater highlights and salsa lessons. Please help us make this trip a reality for ALL our students! You can help by visiting our auction site Sunday, March 8th through Tuesday, March 24th: Amigos Auction. Thank you from all of the Amigos 8th graders and their families for your support!
Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Principal

Happy National Nutrition Month!

eat rightDid you know that students who eat breakfast may see increases in their concentration and test scores? Students who regularly eat breakfast also have fewer behavioral issues in the classroom and fewer tardy days. Cambridge schools offer FREE complete breakfast (i.e., a hot meal, fruit and milk) to all students. Maybe it’s time your family gave it a try? Find school menus here >>
