Family Conferences
In a continued effort to strengthen relationships with families/ caregivers and to support student achievement, CRLS will offer Family-Teacher Conferences on October 15, 16 & 17, 2019. CRLS will utilize the online pre-registration program as well as maintaining an open walk-in time which requires no pre-registration.
In order to implement the conferences we will have an early release and a delayed opening for students as well as an evening event. The schedule is as follows.
- Tuesday, October 15 | 8:10 – 11AM - Online pre-registration only for conferences . (Delayed opening for students. Students arrive for block 3 or lunch A at 11:12AM)
- Wednesday, October 16 | 6 – 8PM - No pre-registration –walk-in only (sign up on the teachers door)
- Thursday, October 17 | 12Noon - 3PM - Online pre-registration only for conferences
(Students are released after block 2 at 11:08AM. Lunch will be served from 11:12-11:42AM)
Online registration opens on October 1st!
With the online registration service, parents/guardians can:
- Register for conferences 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the registration period.
- In two simple steps schedule a conference by choosing an available conference time slot.
- View, print, and email their conference schedule.
- Return at any time to reschedule a conference.

PSAT Exams
PSAT exam will occur for grades 10 and 11 on Wednesday, October 16th. Recognizing the importance of instructional time for students, 10/16 will be a ½ day for all students following PSAT administration. Students in grades 9 and 12 will have a delayed opening, and Block 3 classes will start at 11:42AM. Except for those who are in extended PSAT test sessions, all students will attend Block 3 and 4 classes on the day.

Join the CRLS Arts Committee
Meetings begin at 7PM and are held in the VPA office. The meeting schedule is as follows: November 4, December 2, January 6, February 3, March 2,
April 6, and May 4.

Join the Alpine Ski and Board Club
The Alpine Ski and Board Club is one of the oldest and one of the most active clubs at CRLS. This year we have 4 day trips to Waterville Valley NH and a 3 day 3 night ski/board trip to Stowe, VT which is taking place during February vacation. We will leave Cambridge on the afternoon of Monday Feb. 17th and return the evening of the 20th. While at Stowe we will be returning to a hotel/hostel called The Round Hearth where we have stayed for the past ten years. Sign up for the overnight is on a first come, first serve bases and requires a non-refundable $100 deposit. The cost for this trip is $525 and does not include lunch, rentals, or lessons. The Club needs at least 35 students to sign up by Thanksgiving break. If there are not enough students interested by Thanksgiving, the trip will be cancelled and all money will be returned. From Thorndike to Berkshire
After many years in rented quarters, CPS Central Administration is relocating to brand new offices, inside the new Cambridge Street complex.
You can find us behind the new Valente Branch Library, with our entrance located at 135 Berkshire Street, Cambridge, MA 02141 (see map).

Spain and Portugal Trip Meeting
Wednesday, October 16th | Room 2620 CRLS
This trip is a Spanish language immersion trip and is February break 2020. No sign ups after October 26th. Must be a CRLS student and have some Spanish language skills. The price increases $70 after October 1st. Please contact [email protected] for information.

AP Exam Registration
Registration is underway for AP Exams. This is a two-step process. First click here and "join class" using the registration code provided by your teacher. Then submit your payment to Jodi Mace in Learning Community S by November 5th at 2:30PM.
Exam fees are $94 per exam. Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch pay $13 per exam. Checks must be payable to CRLS AP Program. Include the students's full name and name of AP Exam in the memo line.
Registration Deadlines:
- I am taking a first semester or full-year AP Class: Registration is due November 5th
- I am not enrolled in an AP course at CRLS. I plan to study on my own to take the exam (must email Jodie Mace for the join code): Registration due November 5th.
- I am enrolled in a second semester class: Registration window of January 17th - March 5th.

2019 - 20 Global Navigator Scholarship
Once again CRLS has been accepted as a 2019-20 Global Navigator Scholarship school for summer study abroad by CIEE. This is very competitive process and a huge accolade for our school and students.
As a Global Navigator School, CIEE has committed at least $25,000 in scholarship funds for CRLS students (up to 100% tuition based on need and merit, excluding cost of airfare) to travel the world and have 3-4 week life changing experiences around Service and Leadership, Language and Culture, or Global Discovery programs in multiple far flung locations.
Application for scholarships are open for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders for summer 2020.

National School Lunch Week
Food & Nutrition Services will be celebrating National School Lunch Week from October 15th to 18th with the theme What's On Your Playlist?, emphasizing the communal experience both music and meals have in defining our important life events. Our menu for the week will include some student favorites and new additions, and we'll have lucky tray giveaways! Cambridge School Volunteers Tutoring
CSV Tutoring Center: One-to-One Tutoring Before and After School, Room 2407
Volunteers serve as one-to-one tutors and mentors twice a week with high school students of all levels and needs. Volunteers provide students with individual lesson plans to improve their skills and knowledge in particular subjects. Approximately 40% of the students speak a language other than English as their first language. The Tutoring Center is open before school from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m. and after school from 2:45 to 3:45PM. Note: The first day of before and after school Tutoring Center will be September 23; the last day is June 12.
CSV Tutoring Center: Academic Support Classes, Room 2403
Students are assigned to the Tutoring Center during the school day for credit-bearing individualized academic support services, covering all subjects. CSV volunteers are matched to students singly or in small groups.
Drop-in Math Center, Room 2403
Volunteers help students on a walk-in basis with math problems ranging from pre-algebra to calculus, before school daily, between 7:30 and 8AM.
College/Career Mentoring Program
Volunteers help high school seniors, some of whom may be the first in their families to apply to college, by assisting with college, job readiness, and gap year program research; understanding and following through with all stages of the application process; and developing personal statements. In addition, volunteers help students identify scholarships and complete scholarship applications and essays. The program meets on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:30PM. Note: The first day of service for the College and Career Mentor program (CCMP) is Wednesday, October 16, 2:30 - 4PM in the College and Career Resource Center, Room 1501.

Faculty Innovation Grants (up to $1,000 each) are to enliven learning for your students by sponsoring your ideas for academic exploration, community building, social development, and appreciation of arts, cultures, and diversity. Visits from accomplished guests, class field trips, special events, performances, group creations, and service learning are among the kinds of projects and experiences Faculty Innovation Grants can make possible when CPS, CRLS, and other school-related funding is unavailable.

Cambridge Teen Health Center
The Cambridge Teen Health Center, in partnership with Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), is a school-based health clinic located in the CRLS health office. The center is staffed by a full time Nurse Practitioner, a sexual and reproductive health educator and mental health specialists – psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers.
