Chelsea Clinton Visits Vassal Lane

On October 21, Chelsea Clinton visited VLUS as a stop on her book tour for her new book It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going! After a presentation about what inspired her as a young student and what students now inspire her, Chelsea spent a good deal of time answering thoughtful questions from the students in the audience.

A Visit with Maris Wicks
We were thrilled to meet the awesome, adept, and animated artist & author Maris Wicks! A few classes from Amigos, Baldwin, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Kennedy-Longfellow, and Morse took a jaunt over to Cambridge Public Library earlier this month to hear Maris talk about her brand new book‚ Human Body Theater. Tumblebooks

Tumblebooks Premium Library
One of the Teachers’ Resource Center goals this year is to support interactive teaching through the provision of new interactive resources and professional development offerings. Another is to support students’ love of reading and literacy development while further engaging families in these rewarding journeys. The acquisition this fall of a subscription to Tumblebooks Premium Library for learners with K – 6 reading abilities supports both goals! Read more >>

ProQuest Education Journals: Full Text Journals for CPS Educators!
Just a reminder that all CPS staff have access to ProQuest Education Journals, one-stop shopping for your professional research needs! Available through the Teachers’ Resource Center website, and from the Online Library Resources link on school library websites. ProQuest Education Journals indexes 1020 journals covering literature on K – 12 and higher education. Learn more >>


Ed Tech

Educational Technology Update
This school year, the Educational Technology department has been able to complete two large projects in order to provide a standard model of instructional technology hardware resources for students and teachers in grades

Pixar

Behind the Science of Pixar
All seventh graders in Cambridge had the exciting opportunity to participate in a free field trip experience at the Boston Museum of Science through the Google Field Trip program. Students were able to visit the special brand-new exhibit The Science Behind Pixar. Read more >>

Instagram

Digital Citizenship Motto Contest
Last month, CRLS students participated in Digital Citizenship week through a series of activities in Community Meetings. Students were actively engaged in conversations around sexting, posting, online cruelty, screen time, and online identities. Read more >>

Media Students

Happening in the Media Technology Classrooms This Fall
Students in the Media Technology classroom are well immersed in the curriculum, working on a range of projects. In Exploratory, freshman students are producing student driven videos on topics that relate to issues of inequity, discrimination or other forms of injustice as deemed relevant to them in their personal experiences. Watch our Channels! Access the Student Media Portal!

All completed student work is shown on our two Cambridge cable channels, streamed on our web site, and archived on the CPS MediaCAST student portal.

Current programs including all original work for FY15 and new work from FY16 are available in the portal under the right hand drop down menu listed by series. You can also visit the From the Vault category for older archived media including past graduations, Media Fair compilations, etc. We will be adding select archived work dating back to our inception in 2006. If you are interested in a particular program not found on the portal, please email us and we will add links as possible.
