Message from Chad Leith
Dear members of the Morse School community,
 I begin this week’s newsletter with a warning about a potential hazard in one of our outdoor play spaces. As part of its renovation last year, the public Morse School Playground that runs along our A- and B-wing classrooms was planted with shrubs that produce colorful yew berries (pictured here). We have recently learned that these berries are poisonous. If your child plays in this playground, please be sure that he/she avoids picking or eating these berries. In the meantime, we will be working with city officials who oversee public parks to remove and replace these shrubs.

If you are looking for something fun to do tomorrow with your children, please consider taking them to enjoy Family Day at Danehy Park. This wonderful citywide community event will feature many fun activities for your entire family - including an opportunity to drop me into Mayor Marc McGovern’s dunk tank! Morse School Open House & Curriculum Night:
This year’s Morse School Open House & Curriculum Night will take place on Wednesday, September 25th from 6 to 8PM. We invite all of our parents and caregivers (JK-Grade 5) to come meet your children’s teachers, connect with other parents, and gain an understanding of what - and how - our students will be learning during the coming school year.

2nd Annual Morse Marathon
October 4th
On behalf of the Friends of Morse, I am very excited to announce the 2nd annual Morse Marathon, a school-wide fun run/walk that will take place on Friday, October 4th from 9 - 10:30AM at beautiful Magazine Beach Park. This event is aimed at promoting fitness and community. It will also raise funds to support enriching learning experiences for our students. We have moved the event to the fall to bring our community together earlier in the school year, as well as to make space for other fun events we have planned for the spring. We hope that you will consider sponsoring your Morse student runner! More information will be sent home in your child’s backpack on Monday. Seeking Parent Representatives for the Morse School Council
As I mentioned in the message I sent last week, we are looking for parent representatives to serve on on the Morse School Council. The School Council is a legally-required, representative group of parents and teachers who assist the principal in adopting educational goals and policies for the school. The School Council will hold its first meeting on October 17th. We are looking to have 3-4 newly-elected parent representatives on the Council. Being a Morse School parent is the only qualification you need to run! We celebrate diversity at the Morse School and are eager to identify a group of parent members who represent the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our school community. If you are interested in running for a seat on the council, please send me an e-mail with the following information:
- Your name and the grade level of your child(ren);
- Why you are interested in joining the School Council; and
- A little bit about your background.
Voting will take place through paper ballot at the September 25th Open House & Curriculum Night (each Morse School parent/guardian is eligible to vote).
Water Bottle Filling Station
I am pleased to share that we have a brand new water bottle filling station and water fountain in our cafeteria! In an effort to reduce waste, we will no longer supply plastic cups. We encourage all parents to please consider sending your child to school with a water bottle.
