Beautiful Music at the Spring Concert!

fohCongratulations to all who performed in Haggerty’s Spring Concert on May 31. From songs in Dari (Afghanistan), Hawaiian, Japanese, Hindi, Spanish, and French, fourth graders playing Beethoven on recorders and a 5th grade brass solo in Jazz Me, to singing in two parts, three parts, and four parts (!), everyone performed beautifully. Thank you to Shelley Irvin-Kent and Kilian Mooney for their hard work and dedication.

Haggerty Chorus participated in the First Annual Singing Festival at Cambridge Rindge and Latin on May 29. Haggerty brought the largest group, representing with 48 students in the chorus! The afternoon was full of rehearsal, playing on the playground, soccer games, pizza, and more rehearsal. We sang our own set (Arlequin dans sa boutique, The Owls, and Jazz Me) and then performed with the festival chorus of 120+ students. The Festival Chorus performed Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing, Red River Dances, Al Shlosha d’Varim, and Bicycles. Many thanks to our chaperones Nancy Campbell, Allison Celimli, Sue Mapel, Nordell Randall and Jen Richards for all their help. We look forward to participating again next year!

Haggerty Chorus took one final field trip to Neville Place on June 7. The residents of Neville Manor were thoroughly entertained!

Summer Learning Challenge
Keep your brain growing all summer long! heck your child’s home folder for information about our Haggerty Summer Learning Challenge. List learning activities on the log that is sent home. All students who return a filled out log by September 6th, 2019 will be recognized at our first all school assembly.

With the log, you will find a brochure with more information and many online resources and a page with grade level suggestions for math activities and games. In addition, the district has put together math resources, including ideas for games and activities, suggested websites and apps, and children’s books. You can find suggestions for your child’s grade level here.

Any reading, writing, math or other learning activities your child does this summer can be listed on the log. We want to know about the wonderful learning they do this summer!

Enjoy your summer!

It is not at all surprising that at this time many parents and children are managing high levels of anxiety. A lot of anxiety is transmitted through the environment, often inadvertently through what Lynn Lyons, international speaker and psychotherapist, refers to as “safety chatter,” which can be overt parental expression of fear and worry or a more subtle expression of fear through excessive explanation and accommodation. 5th Graders Moving On
On Thursday, June 13th, our fifth graders hosted their final assembly - and celebrated their years at Haggerty. The fifth graders broke up into groups of 5 to 6 and each took on memorializing a grade from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. It was a walk down memory lane, a celebration of learning, friends and teachers. They also sang "Happy" by Pharrell Williams (thanks Ms. Irvin-Kent!), and put items in the Time Capsule, they will come back and retrieve when they graduate high school! After the assembly, the fifth graders and their family went to the West Cambridge Youth center for a celebratory lunch! Thanks to the fifth grade teachers, Ms. Stewart, Ms . Faucher, Ms. Lindhorst, Ms. Foster and Ms. Hickey! Thanks also to all the fifth grade parents who organized a wonderful celebration! We will miss you, fifth graders!
