That’s “welcome” in 27 languages, and I’m sure I’ve missed a few! If I did, or if I made some errors, please let us know. Our goal is to have everyone not only feel welcome at Haggerty, but wanted and valued. You and your children and family belong here. Read more >>

Library

Library Corner
By: Sarah Novogrodsky
Welcome back to another exciting year in the Haggerty Library.

Library book exchange: Please help your child to remember library day in order to return books on time and borrow new ones. (JK and K borrow books to enjoy in their classrooms. After we are all used to our routines, Ks may begin to borrow books to take home.)

2018 - 2019 Library Schedule:
Monday: Golding, Healy, Barker, Favreau, Hassett
Tuesday: Stewart/Faucher, Moloney,
Wednesday: Kuo, Karwowski
Thursday: Yeh and Lacey
Friday: Callendar and Doherty

Volunteer Opportunity

If you have some free time and would like to volunteer in the library, we always need help with shelving. A quick 15 or 20 minutes of help makes an enormous difference.

Back to School Night and Sponsor A Book
Every Back to School Night I have a table of new books which families can choose to sponsor for our library collection. A name plate goes inside with your child's name. Stop by the evening of October 3 with a check or cash to sponsor a book!

Thanks!

MUSIC

Music Corner
By: Shelley Irvin-Kent
At Haggerty, our JK-2 students receive Kodály-inspired music instruction with Ms. Irvin-Kent four times per week. Third and fourth graders have a music class on Mondays with Mr. Mooney, who we're thrilled to have returning to Haggerty for his second year. Fifth graders start learning instruments with the traveling instrumental team: Mr. Tally, Mr. Babecka, and Mr. Brady (new this year).

All 3rd-5th graders are welcome to participate in Haggerty Chorus, which meets on Tuesday and Friday mornings 7:30 - 8AM in the music room. (Students who participate are not marked late and both bus student and walkers are able to join.) This is a great opportunity for students who love to sing! Chorus starts on Tuesday, September 25 and will perform in both the Peace Day and Spring concerts.

You can reach the music teachers best via email.

ARRIVAL REMINDERS
In an effort to have your students start the day with success and consistency, we are asking that parents who drop-off their children do so by 7:55AM. The school day begins at 7:55AM, so if you come in after that, please sign-in in the office.

In every classroom, students are met with some form of “Morning Work.” This includes several tasks and routines for your children, all designed to build their independence.  Classroom teachers need to start the day with Morning Meeting by 8AM. This is hard to do when there are family members in the classroom. If you want to bring your child in, please do, but know that we’ll be encouraging you to leave by 7:55AM. It’s helpful if you allow your children to be independent in their routines in the morning. Ask them what the routines and expectations are, and have them show you how they are done. Your praise and support of their independence will reinforce it and support a smooth start to the school day.  Having too many adults in a classroom makes it hard for our students to know who to answer to and it can be confusing for our youngest learners.

DISMISSAL NOTES
Crosswalk Reminder
Please use the crosswalks when you cross the street. Our crossing guard can only stop traffic for you if you are actually in the crosswalk. Please help us keep you safe!

HAGGERTY SCHOOL-WIDE EXPECTED BEHAVIORS
