Message from Dr. Salim
Dear Families,

The Presidential election has brought intense emotion for many of us personally, and has led to public expressions of uncertainty and protest in cities such as Boston. Whatever our individual political position or opinions, many CPS students may be witnessing these events with a mix of worry, anger, sadness and confusion.

The CPS leadership has spent some time reaching out to our faculty and staff with resources for talking with students about the election, which I would also like to share with you. These resources emphasize the importance of sustaining a sense of caring, safety, and mutual respect within our schools and community.

National Association of School Psychologists: NASP Guidance for Reinforcing Safe, Supportive and Positive Environments for All Students

Dr. Ali Michael, Ph.D. What Do We Tell the Children? Tell them, first, that we will protect them. Many of your children may have come home from school yesterday describing caring and supportive dialogue taking place in their classrooms. I am confident that all members of the CPS community will continue to teach and lead with our shared values of inclusivity and openness, fairness and justice, and love and caring.

I hope that these resources will be helpful to your family as you continue these lessons with your children, at home. If you or your child needs help during this time, I encourage you to reach out to your child's teachers or Principal.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Salim
Superintendent

Veterans Day

Veteran's Day Assembly
Our Veteran's Day Assembly today was beautiful and so moving. We honored two veterans. Former Peabody Student, Corporal Wislens Exilhomme and Sergeant Thomas Glynn from the Cambridge Police Department. It was a combined event with the Rindge Avenue Upper Campus. The Early Bird Singers and the RAUC Choir and Bands sounded incredible. Thank you to the many families who joined us. View a slideshow from the event >>

Pledge

Practice Makes Perfect
Today, Mrs. Kelley worked with some of the kindergartners so that they could recite the Pledge of Allegiance on the intercom this morning.

Obama

Letter to Mrs. Obama from Some of our Fourth Graders
Dear Mrs. Michelle Obama,

You are the first African American first lady of the United States. Well, you can be the first African American Lady President of the United States! And if Hillary Clinton does not win, then you could be the first African American AND female President of the United States! You probably know a lot about presidents and presidential stuff. Your husband has been President so why not you try to be president? Though it is hard work, you can do it because you are a hard worker and the first lady of the United States.
