Dear Families,

It has been another excellent week here at Amigos! Students are getting used to their schedules and the real learning has begun. We also started our Response to Intervention (RTI) screening period. During this period, all students will be assessed in Math and Literacy as per the Cambridge Public Schools district wide plan. These screeners inform our instruction and monitor student progress and growth.

September 15th was the first day of Hispanic Heritage month here in the United States. Hispanic Heritage Month started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. In 1988, President Reagan expanded it to a month-long celebration. While we always celebrate our Hispanic and Latino roots and cultures here at Amigos, this month we will spend some extra time honoring the valuable contributions made by generations of Hispanics and Latinos in the United States.

Our school activities and events this week were a big success. We want to thank Johanny Canada-Hlatshwayo for organizing two wonderful math nights and all the teachers who helped to celebrate math “Amigos style”. Estimadas familias,

¡Hemos tenido otra excelente semana aquí en nuestra Escuela Amigos! Los estudiantes han comenzado a familiarizarse con sus horarios y el aprendizaje verdadero ha empezado. También hemos iniciado el monitoreo de “Respuesta a la Intervención (RTI)”. Durante este periodo, todos los estudiantes serán evaluados en Matemáticas y en la Lectoescritura según el plan del distrito de las Escuelas Públicas de Cambridge. Estas evaluaciones informan la enseñanza y monitorean el progreso y crecimiento académico de nuestros estudiantes.

El 15 de septiembre marcó el principio del Mes de la Herencia Hispana aquí en los Estados Unidos. Esta celebración se inició en 1968 con la Semana de la Herencia Hispana bajo la administración del presidente Lyndon Johnson. En 1988, el presidente Reagan la extendió a un mes. Aunque en Amigos siempre celebramos nuestras raíces hispanas y latinas, en este mes le dedicaremos tiempo adicional a honrar las valiosas aportaciones de generaciones hispanas y latinas en los Estados Unidos.

Nuestras actividades y eventos escolares también fueron exitosos. Le damos las gracias a Johanny Canada-Hlatshwayo por organizar dos noches de matemáticas maravillosas y a los otros profesores quienes ayudaron a celebrar las matemáticas “estilo Amigos”. La próxima semana tenemos la primera reunión del Consejo Escolar de Amigos (ASC). Espero que puedan acompañar a los representantes del ASC y a mí para nuestra primera reunión el lunes en la biblioteca de la escuela. View the Agenda >>
