SUMMER READING 2015
We're quite excited to kick off the summer reading season!
Grades K-8
CPS is issuing a summer reading challenge to all students entering grades K-8: Read 20 minutes per day to help reach the goal of half a million minutes of reading per grade level! If minutes = miles, we'll read to the moon and back this summer! Get summer reading info, logs & more >>
Why Read Every Day This Summer?
Imagine two students: Student A reads or listens to an audiobook every single day; Student B doesn't pick up a book or listen to an audiobook all summer.
Student A has just exercised his brain in a way that will:
- Increase his knowledge
- Build his vocabulary
- Teach him interesting facts
- Help him appreciate different experiences and cultures
- Boost his grades and test scores
- Give him confidence to bring back to school
Reading is the foundation of learning!
Grades 9-12
Reading over the summer will help your reading, writing, and thinking skills so you can succeed in your English class – and in school – next year! See the CRLS summer reading brochure & other resources >>
------
Summer reading info will be sent home with students by the end of the school year, and children in grades K-8 are receiving bookmarks. We've also posted all the summer reading basics and loads of fun extras on our website.
Happy summer, happy reading!
