Hello Morse Community, Happy New Month! This is a very special month, its Black History month. This month, we get to celebrate black heros who have touched the lives of many and have reached milestones and ultimately made history in America.
Shirley Chisholm (1924 - 2005)
Congress is more diverse now than it's ever been. However, when Chisholm was attempting to shatter the glass ceiling, the same couldn't be said. During the racially contentious period in the late '60s, she became the first Black woman elected to Congress. She represented New York's 12th District from 1969 to 1983, and in 1972, she became the first woman to run for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. Her campaign slogan: "Unbought and Unbossed" rings even louder today. Senator Kamala Harris recently paid tribute to Chisholm in her presidential campaign announcement by using a similar logo to Chisholm's.
Black History Month - Online Talk
February 17th | 8-9PM
In honor of Black History Month the Morse School parent group is excited to facilitate an online talk by Kathleen (Kit) Rawlins of the Cambridge Historic Commission. The discussion will be focused around local leaders and events in Black History. Bishop McGuire of St. Augustine’s is of particular interest since our school used to be located across Allston street from the Church.

Morse Working Group on Race & Equity
The Morse School Working Group on Race & Equity will re-launch this February with the important task of conducting an equity self-assessment for our school. We are looking for parents who are interested in making an important contribution to our school by volunteering to meet twice per month (virtually) with me, Dr. Leith, Ms. Headley, other parents, caregivers, and staff members, and district partners from the CPS Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. It is very important that we have many different perspectives in this process. If you are interested in joining or learning more, please see this flyer.
