Curiosity Challenge Winners
Each year the City of Cambridge challenges its elementary and middle school students to take the Cambridge Science Festival’s Curiosity Challenge. To meet the challenge a student must write an essay, draw or take a picture about their curiosity and describe how it prompted them to explore your world.
This year the Challenge received 2,500 entries from across the city--only a few of which would win. Thirteen FMA scholars were amongst the chosen winners this year. Please join the faculty and staff in celebrating their accomplishments!

World Autism Awareness Day
“World Autism Awareness Day” was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008, and students and staff at the FMA celebrate for an entire week, March 30-April 2. FMA students learned about autism through read-alouds in their classrooms and library, and we celebrated our scholars with autism in a BIG way on April 1.
First, we had an assembly hosted by the fifth graders, with prizes, songs, and a video. The Vice Mayor, Dennis Benzan, welcomed all the students, staff and visitors to our event. We were proud to see Superintendent Young attend the assembly. Then at 1:15, the entire school gathered for a walk around the neighborhood and were welcomed and applauded by local business people and neighbors. We were able to pass out information to neighbors about autism while on the walk.
Then, to top it all off, we met at City Hall at 6:30, where we were greeted by the City Manager, Richard Rossi, and the Mayor, David Maher, and four of our students read their poems or stories about friends with autism. Congratulations to Angelyna C, Brandy, Steven and Jadon for their performances! Finally, we counted down with the Mayor, flipped a switch, and together we lit City Hall Up Blue!
