Greetings from Chad Leith

Dear Morse School Parents, Caregivers, and Families,

I hope that this message finds you healthy and safe. The coronavirus outbreak has had a huge impact on all of our lives. Although I know that you have been inundated - and quite possibly overwhelmed - by the volume of communication that you have been receiving during the first week of the emergency school closure, I wanted to reach out personally to check in, to let you know that we are thinking about you, and to offer our support and solidarity.

If you have not done so already, please visit the Morse Distance Learning Page, which includes information about how we will help you sustain your children’s academic growth during the school closure. In a very short period of time, our teachers have done a tremendous job of shifting to an entirely new way of planning, collaborating, and teaching. We are still working to calibrate and streamline our messaging so that the information we share with you is as helpful and supportive as possible. For now, you should be receiving daily messages from your children’s teachers, with detailed information about learning activities and expectations.

Next week, we will hold two virtual drop-in meetings for Morse School parents. Denise, Elaine, Sam and I will be on hand to answer your questions and solicit your feedback on ways we might better support you and your children during the school closure. I know that this has been a challenging time, and hope that being able to connect with one another virtually will allow us to share ideas for making the most of the time our kids are spending away from school. Here is how you can join:

Grades JK-2: Monday, March 23rd from 3:30-4:30PM
Join Google Meet online by following this link. Or call 515.518.4037 (PIN: 610 720 625#)

Grades 3-5: Wednesday, March 25th from 3:30-4:30PM
Join Google Meet online by following this link. Or call 914.487.4450 (PIN: 858 072 612#)

family playing gameAs you are likely aware, the City of Cambridge’s playgrounds (areas with play structures of any kind) are closed until further notice. Parks, fields, and courts, with the exception of playground areas, will remain open for passive use. The City has prohibited group activities or game playing, however, and reminds all residents to maintain a distance of 6 feet from other people while enjoying these spaces. My own family has been dealing with these restrictions by doing puzzles, catching up on classic movies, taking long walks along the Charles River, and playing our favorite board games (including Pandemic, which we have approached with a renewed sense of purpose, given the times we are experiencing!).

I have been inspired by the way that so many members of the Morse School community have come together to support one another through this unprecedented crisis. Although our building is now closed, please know that you can email, call, or text me ([email protected]; 617.201.7801) or Ms. Headley ([email protected]; 617.201.7813) with any question or concern. If we are unable to answer, please leave a message and we will get back to you within 24 hours. Also:
–For questions about food assistance please send an email to our Family Liaison Ms. Sullivan ([email protected]).

–If you are not receiving daily messages from your child’s teacher or need help accessing the internet, please send an email to our Clerk Ms. Delaney ([email protected]).
On behalf of all members of the Morse School team, please know that we care about and miss your children. Please keep your eyes out for more messages next week and please do your best to enjoy this first weekend of spring.

Sincerely,

Chad Leith
Principal
