Message from Dr. Salim
I hope that you had an enjoyable winter break. My new year began for me with welcoming our 2020 - 2022 School Committee members in a swearing-in ceremony held at the Cambridge Public Library. The Committee will grow by one additional member soon, following a vacancy recount that the Election Commission will hold on January 16.
As I shared in my December Op Ed, recent events have called us to renew our equity-driven commitment to rigorous, joyful, and culturally responsive learning + personalized support for every CPS student.
In our District Plan, we committed ourselves to being a learning organization. One of the things that we are learning is how important it is to communicate with you, our community. That’s why, in addition to this newsletter, we are launching a new monthly newsletter, CPS Equity & Access, later in January, which will provide regular updates on our next steps to advance equity and racial equity.
Equity and racial equity have been the central focus and driver of district improvement efforts over the last 4 years. Research and our experience demonstrate that by improving experience for those farthest from equity, our schools are strengthened for all students.
