Seal of Biliteracy
During the coming weeks, the ELL and World Language Departments will be reaching out to CRLS seniors who may be eligible to receive the Seal of Biliteracy. The Seal is a relatively new initiative that recognizes students who have achieved proficiency in two or more languages by graduation. Additional information and a student application to achieve the Seal at CRLS is available here.
The Seal of Biliteracy is a nationwide initiative that will allow students to be recognized by colleges and employers for their achievement in languages. A number of current CRLS seniors have already been notified that they received the Seal or the Seal with Distinction based on their ELA MCAS and Advanced Placement Language scores. We are happy to answer any questions about this new program. This flow chart may also be helpful. CRLS Global Studies Certificate Program
The Global Studies Certificate (GSC) Program is an application-based program that promotes student engagement in global studies through an emphasis on the Asia Society’s global competence skills: investigating the world, weighing perspectives, communicating ideas, taking action, and applying disciplinary and interdisciplinary expertise in authentic ways. Students in the program need to maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher and fulfill the following requirements: 1) complete a Global Studies Portfolio/Website; 2) attend monthly GSC meetings; 3) complete monthly online reflections on the GSC Google Classroom site; 4) enroll in the GSC Senior Spring Seminar course; 5) complete a GSC capstone program; 6) present their project at the GSC final symposium. Upon successful completion of the program, students’ transcripts will reflect their achievement and they will earn a Global Studies Certificate. Visit the website to learn more >>

Senior Class Big Picture
Attention Seniors the Big Picture will be taken on Wednesday, January 15th in the War Memorial and all seniors should report to the War Memorial after their Finals on Wednesday the 15th. Also, Seniors Gear is in and can be picked up after school with a receipt. A limited amount of extras have been ordered and will be available on a first come first serve basis.

Driver's Education Registration

Classes meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting January 28th. There are two classroom sessions offered at 2:30PM or 6PM.

Where's Tyler?
On Monday, January 6, the Where's Tyler Jazz Ensemble will perform at the Lilypad at 6:30PM. It will be an exciting night of swing, ballads, and funk. This is the culminating concert of the CRLS Jazz Workshop class. Please come and support! $5 donation suggested.

Donations Needed
It's getting extremely cold out and STARs Peer Leaders are asking for donations to help those who are less fortunate stay warm and healthy this winter. Please bring in any warm clothing and hygiene products such as lotion, chapstick, hand sanitizer etc. to donate. Collection boxes are in the Main Office, Learning Community Offices and STARs (Room 2201). We appreciate your help and support!

Help Support the February Trip to Portugal and Spain
Join us for a delicious Portuguese Style Buffet Dinner on January 10th from 7-10PM at Saint Anthony's Filarmónica Cultural Club located in East Cambridge (575 Cambridge St, Cambridge.)
Proceeds will support the February 2020 student trip to Portugal and Spain.
Homemade Portuguese food, prizes, music, and dancing.
Tickets $30 each will cover all you can eat dinner.

Senior Portraits: ONE Yearbook Photo Session will be offered free of charge at the school during the year. Students who miss the photo session, or who would like their photos re-taken (for bad hair days and the like) can make arrangements for photos to be taken at the studio or elsewhere using any of the packages below at the prices listed. Cambridge School Volunteers Tutoring
Need Help Applying to College?
CSV College and career mentoring program began last week and will take place every Wednesday in the CCRC, 2:45-4:30PM. Trained mentors are there to help students with their college essays and applications.

CSV Tutoring Center: One-to-One Tutoring Before and After School, Room 2407
Volunteers serve as one-to-one tutors and mentors twice a week with high school students of all levels and needs. Volunteers provide students with individual lesson plans to improve their skills and knowledge in particular subjects. Approximately 40% of the students speak a language other than English as their first language. The Tutoring Center is open before school from 7:30 to 8AM and after school from 2:45 to 3:45PM.
CSV Tutoring Center: Academic Support Classes, Room 2403
Students are assigned to the Tutoring Center during the school day for credit-bearing individualized academic support services, covering all subjects. CSV volunteers are matched to students singly or in small groups.
Drop-in Math Center, Room 2403
Volunteers help students on a walk-in basis with math problems ranging from pre-algebra to calculus, before school daily, between 7:30 and 8AM.
College/Career Mentoring Program
Volunteers help high school seniors, some of whom may be the first in their families to apply to college, by assisting with college, job readiness, and gap year program research; understanding and following through with all stages of the application process; and developing personal statements. In addition, volunteers help students identify scholarships and complete scholarship applications and essays. The program meets on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:30PM in the College and Career Resource Center, Room 1501.

Cambridge Teen Health Center
The Cambridge Teen Health Center, in partnership with Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), is a school-based health clinic located in the CRLS health office. The center is staffed by a full time Nurse Practitioner, a sexual and reproductive health educator and mental health specialists – psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers.
