Greetings from Chad Leith

Dear Morse School families and community members,

I am writing with a reminder about tomorrow evening’s Open House & Curriculum Night, which will take place from 6 - 8PM for students in JK-Grade 5. We are excited to welcome you and to share more about our goals for the coming school year. We warmly invite all parents and caregivers to join us for this opportunity to meet your children’s teachers and connect with other Morse School families. Please see the flyer for more info about this event >>

Morse School Council Parent Candidates
I am also excited to introduce two parents who have volunteered to serve as representatives on the Morse School Council. At tomorrow evening’s Open House, we will provide you with an opportunity to indicate your approval. Below, please see an overview of each parent candidate:

Nuria Jane Chemeno is the parent of two Morse School Children; Leo is in Kindergarten and Zoe is in Grade 4. Originally from Spain, Nuria arrived in the United States in 2006. She writes: “I have always felt welcome, but I am aware of how having immigrant parents and different cultures at home can impact my kids’ daily life. I want to be part of the School Council to learn how Morse can continue being a welcoming community, respecting all students and their cultural and personal backgrounds.”

Caleb Hurst-Hiller has two children at Morse — Ezra in the 3rd Grade and Phoebe in Kindergarten — and has been part of the Morse community for four years. A former humanities teacher and school administrator, he was founding faculty at Community Charter School of Cambridge. He served as the high school principal and, most recently, as the head of school, a position he held for many years. Having stepped back at CCSC, Caleb is excited to get more involved at Morse, a school and community that has made our family feel both welcome and supported. Caleb is excited to work closely with members of the faculty and staff and other parents in order to ensure that Morse continues to both celebrate the ways our community is excelling and support the community as it confronts and tackles current and future challenges.

Many thanks to Nuria and Caleb for their willingness to serve on our School Council this year! If approved, Nuria and Caleb will join Delia Puntonio and Thalia Krakower as parent members. An additional parent seat on the Morse School Council is held by an officer of the Friends of Morse, which meets monthly to discuss community events, fundraising efforts and other parent-led initiatives. At tomorrow evening’s Open House, Friends of Morse President Joanne Jang will share more about the Friends of Morse.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at tomorrow evening’s Open House!
