Leveling Up Article: Feedback Needed

Hello CRLS Families,

I am managing editor of CRLS' student newspaper, The Register Forum. I am co-writing an article about the Leveling Up initiative in 9th grade ELA, 9th grade World History, and 10th grade ELA classes. Fall Musical Information Session
Tuesday afternoon, June 11 at 2:35PM in the Black Box (basement of the Arts building) we will be announcing the Fall Musical. If there is a student who you think might be interested in learning about the show even if they have not done theater before, please encourage them to attend! The auditions will be held in the fall-this is just information!

Summer Reading
As we look ahead to summer it's time to encourage students to dive into books that will transport them to other worlds and help them learn more about their own world. Check out summer reading expectations and a fantastic list of summer reading/ listening suggestions from students and staff!

Get a jump start on summer work and download the pre-course summer math packets.

Mentor and Student Guide Opportunities for Rising Juniors and Seniors
Freshman Mentoring for rising juniors and seniors who will help to guide and support 9th graders in their transition to CRLS during Freshman Orientation and facilitate weekly mentoring visits throughout the year to help them make the most of their CRLS experience. Students must attend a mandatory 10 hour training this summer on Tuesday, August 20th and Wednesday August 21st from 9AM - 2PM each day in order to become Mentors. Download the application >>

CRLS Student Guides will be matched with new students (in grades 10 -12) who transfer to CRLS from other schools and countries throughout the year. The Guides will welcome students, help them navigate CRLS in terms of academic, campus and student life, and connect them to all of the resources and opportunities we have to offer. Students must attend a 5 hour training this summer on Thursday, August 29th from 9AM - 2PM in order to become Student Guides. Download the application >>

Applications are due by next Monday, June 10th in the STARs room 2201.

Orchestra

Free Tickets to Masterworks concert Dancing with Demons
The Cambridge Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is pleased to offer a limited number of free tickets to its upcoming Masterworks concert Dancing with Demons on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 8PM. The concert will take place at Kresge Auditorium, MIT, 48 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge. Music Director Cynthia Woods will lead our full symphonic Orchestra. View the program >>

To reserve these free tickets, individuals should email me with their: name, number of youths, number of accompanying adults (maximum one free adult ticket per youth) and mentioning CRLS.

Beta

Beta Fish Project
The Cambridge Beta Fish Project it is a Community Well-Being & Social Cohesion Initiative sponsored by The Cambridge Public Health Department to celebrate inclusion, acceptance, tolerance, equality, and to promote an equitable community.

An equitable community is sharing values of diversity, social justice, and individual empowerment, within the neighborhood, where neighbors are treated with fairness and justice, have access to basic needs, and strive for equal opportunities for all.

The Dana Hill neighborhood & The Cambridge Beta Fish Project has selected The Cambridge Rehabilitation & Nursing Care Center to be the fist group in the community to begin this project.

The goal is to bring the youth and the aging together by sharing the gift of Beta Fish. The fish are a companion for the residents of CRNC.

The Cambridge Youth Council is Recruiting New Members

Summer Solstice at the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture

Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV)
CSV is excited to return and support the CRLS community. For the 2018-2019 school year, CSV's high school one-to-one programs will be offered in three locations. Please read below for service details. 

Subject-based Tutoring Services 
Before-school Tutoring (7 - 8AM) 
We are sharing space with Work Force. Our before-school tutoring will be located in room 2403 (in the middle of the hallway on the second floor).

After-school Tutoring (2:45 - 3:45PM)
After-school tutoring will be located in the College/Career Resource Center, room 1501. 

Drop-In Math Tutoring
Monday - Friday | 7:30 - 8AM
CSV Tutoring Center, Room 2403

College/Career Mentoring Services (2:30PM)
SAT Prep and College/Career Mentoring will be held in the CRLS Library's Inquiry Lab (formerly known as the fiction room). 

SAT Prep
SAT Prep's Session I is from 2:30 to 4:30PM on Tuesdays at the CRLS Library, Inquiry Lab. Please encourage seniors to attend- all grade levels are welcome.

College/Career Mentoring 
College/career mentoring is from 2:30 to 4:30PM on Wednesdays. In support of guidance, we help seniors with personal statements/scholarship essays, and post secondary education searches and applications. We reserved the inquiry lab to 3:30PM. However, mentors will continue to work with them in the library up to 4:30PM. The kickoff date is Oct. 3rd.
