Operation Warm
On Friday February 15th, "Operation Warm" donated over 300 new children winter Coats to FMA, sponsored by Oracle. The classroom students came to the gym and was fitted for a free brand new winter coat. Over 30 Oracle company volunteers were available that day, to help manage the event. "Giving is such a rewarding experience, and on this particular Friday morning Operation Warm Coat and Oracle did not disappoint. They brightened up the lives of our Fletcher Maynard Academy (FMA) community" said Family Liaison Daniel Skeritt co-organizer of the coat giveaway. The atmosphere was jubilant, children clapped, danced and sang with joyful appreciation after receiving a coat in the color of their choice. We are extremely grateful to Operation Warm for their kindness.

FMA faculty, family, and community members met on Tuesday, February 26th for the second Courageous Conversations about Racethis academic year. This meeting focused specifically on how family members can use books to engage their children with the topics. We also discussed how identity—the family members’ and the students’, can impact how the engage with the topics.
On the next meeting on Monday, March 18 (6 - 8PM; dinner at 5:30PM) the group will discuss how to use other type of media—particularly TV and film—to engage with students about race and equity. Movies and TV are everywhere and kids will engage with them everywhere. How can faculty and family members use this established engagement to talk about race and equity?
Room 310 Reader's Theater
In room 310, we have finished our unit on traditional literature. We have read fairy tales, pourquoi (why) stories, tall tales, and fables. As a way to wrap up our unit, scholars in room 310 did a readers's theater performance of some fables in our classroom. Some fables we read are: The Lion and the Mouse, The Ant and a Grasshopper, The Tortoise and the Hare and The Beaver and Lumberjack. Ask your scholar, what is a fable and what are the morals that they learned from those fables.
