Estimadas familias,
Sinceramente,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Directora

Dear Families,
It is hard to believe it is December all ready!! The temperatures seem to be staying low so I thought I would take today to remind you of our outside recess policy. We consider recess to be an important part of a child’s school day and we strive to have outdoor recess whenever possible. On days that are extremely cold we use the Child Care Weather Watch Guide to help us decide if it is too cold to go out and play. However, typically if it is below 13 degrees we will make arrangements for indoor recess. It is important to send your child to school with adequate clothing for cold weather; a winter coat, mittens, hat and boots, so that they may partake in the winter fun. If you are experiencing financial difficulty with providing any of these items, please contact Ms. Lillian Rater, our Family Liaison, for assistance.
As you know, we are always excited to have you join us for school/classroom events and to collaborate with us as we strive to celebrate and nurture our bilingual students. As part of our ongoing efforts to deepen our partnership with you and to understand how best to learn from our events for families, we are using a new tool this year called El Libro de Actas. This book / registry will serve to (1) document our families’ participation in a number of events, (2) provide you with space to comment on your experience(s), and (3) collect information that helps us reflect on and identify the best times and kinds of activities that generate the most interest and/or participation. At your next event (sing-along, breakfast, presentation, etc.), please look for the Libro de Actas (or ask any Amigos staff member to help you find it) and sign it before you leave the event. The book will be available in your child’s classroom during the event. Your feedback is invaluable and will help us do an even better job of sharing your child’s growth while responding to your needs.
Please take a moment to read a message from Nurse Tamara regarding lice. Lice, while unpleasant, are not the end of the world, and can and should be dealt with swiftly when at all possible. Nurse Tamara has some important information on the topic in her update that should help us all feel better prepared to deal with an incident.
We will have our second session of Transformative Teachers/Parents on Wednesday, December 12th from 6-8PM. It was originally scheduled to be a one-hour session but based on your feedback, we are extending it to 2 hours. We hope you will join us as we explore how inquiry, curiosity and empathy play a role in how we interact with one another. It is not too late to participate!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Principal
