PSAT Day Wednesday Oct. 10– Altered Schedule for All CRLS Students
Grade 9 - Reports to school at 9 AM and will be dismissed at 12:30 PM. All 9th Graders report to the outside backdoor of the field house (gym) for activities with guidance and PE staff.

Grades 10 and 11 – Will report to CRLS at the regular time for PSAT testing (pre -SAT testing).  

Students will be dismissed after testing and Lunch will be available. The test typically takes 3.5 hours and students with accommodations will be given more time. Please make sure students are on time for the exam.

Grade 12 - Seniors are encouraged to use this day for college visits, community service or career shadowing. Seniors may also report to the basement of the Main Public Library from 9 - 11:30AM where members of the CRLS Guidance Department, Cambridge School Volunteers and uAspire will be available to assist them with the Common Application, essay writing and financial aid.

School Health Informational Sessions
School Health will be having informational sessions this school year 2018-2019.

The first session will be entitled: "Is It the Flu? How to Prevent It." This session will run through October and November. Each session will be 15 to 20 minutes which will occur in your classroom or homeroom. If you are interested in scheduling a session please contact School Health.

Cambridge Family Literacy Fun Day

We are in need of high school student volunteers to help with set-up of the event, be at one of many activities that will be happening throughout the day and clean-up. You can volunteer for the full day or part of the day. Organizers of the event will begin to set-up at 8AM. Clean-up should be done by 3:30PM. Lunch will be provided. Ski Trip to Stowe, Vermont
The Alpine Ski Club is going to Stowe Vermont over February vacation. This is a three night and three day ski and snowboarding trip to one of New England's largest mountains. There is limited room on this trip and spaces are on a first come first serve bases. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is needed to secure a spot. For information about this

Building Equity Bridges - Stipends Available
Your insight and ideas are important to us! Student leaders who are committed to equity can earn stipends or gift cards while making a difference. Opportunities include:

• Youth Sense-Making Team: Share your thoughts on what's impacting students' experiences across CPS. We are looking for a diverse range of students to join us for pizza and an introduction to the Building Equity Bridges project on Thursday, October 4th, 3-5PM at CRLS - School Committee Room. • Youth Organizers: Earn $15 per hour recruiting your peers to focus groups between now and December. Learn more and apply here.

Creative Doers Studio 
Creative Doers Studio is a place where you dream up, design and build experiences that will look amazing in your college application portfolio, while simultaneously making a lasting impact on Cambridge’s public spaces. In the Studio, students develop creative confidence, tech savviness, and entrepreneurial drive to put a dent in the Universe or at least Cambridge. There is space available in our 2018-19 cohort. Students must be 13 years of age or older.

Faculty Innovation Grants for 2019
Now Open
Friends of Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (FOCRLS) is now accepting proposals for 2019 Faculty Innovation Grants! Grants for up to $1,000 each are available to teachers, club advisers, administrators, librarians, guidance counselors, and social workers to implement ideas for energizing the learning experience for students. Faculty Innovation Grants can fund visits from accomplished guests, class field trips, special events, service learning activities, workshops, group creations, and other expansions of curriculum. Join the Enroot Emerge Mentoring Program
Are you from an immigrant family or do you speak a different language at home? Would you like help exploring career paths, practicing public speaking and a chance to do new fun activities around the Boston area? If you answer yes to the two questions above, the Enroot Emerge Mentoring Program is for you!

Enroot will match you with a one-on-one mentor to help you explore career options and work with you each week on your post-secondary plans throughout the school year.
We will also invite you to join us on field trips to colleges and to explore technology and biotechnology companies around Cambridge and Boston.

First Work Program
The First Work Program is a part of the Cambridge Public Schools and is intended to offer part-time, before and after-school, hourly employment to “employment inexperienced” youth attending Cambridge Rindge & Latin School. Students who are enrolled in grade 9 or grade 10 (up to age 15) can apply for acceptance into the program. The jobs are primarily located in various schools in the district. The students’ wages ($8.80/hr.) are paid for by the City of Cambridge and they can work UP TO 10 hours a week. They must be supervised by an adult at all times. Please come by room 1312 for an application packet. 

MIT Age Lab
The MIT AgeLab is recruiting high school students across New England to participate in the 2018 OMEGA Summit.

Students will learn about community-based intergenerational programming and brainstorm ideas for intergenerational exchange to prepare them to take on leadership roles in their school and community to improve relationships between older adults and high school students.

Subject-based Tutoring Services
Before-school Tutoring (7:30 - 8AM)
We are sharing space with Work Force. Our before-school tutoring will be located in room 2403 (in the middle of the hallway on the second floor).

After-school Tutoring (2:45 - 3:45PM)
After-school tutoring will be located in the College/Career Resource Center, room 1501.

Tutoring services will start Monday, Sept. 24th.

College/Career Mentoring Services (2:30PM)
SAT Prep and College/Career Mentoring will be held in the CRLS Library's Inquiry Lab (formerly known as the fiction room).

SAT Prep
SAT Prep's Session I is from 2:30 to 4:30PM on Tuesdays. The kickoff date is September 18th. Please encourage seniors to attend- all grade levels are welcome.

College/Career Mentoring
College/career mentoring is from 2:30 to 4:30PM on Wednesdays. In support of guidance, we help seniors with personal statements/scholarship essays, and post secondary education searches and applications. We reserved the inquiry lab to 3:30PM. However, mentors will continue to work with them in the library up to 4:30PM. The kickoff date is Oct. 3rd.

CRLS has a New uAspire Advisor
Jenny Smith is now available at the Career and College Center (CCRC) on Tuesday - Friday from 9AM - 3:30PM. uAspire works to ensure that all young people have the financial information and resources necessary to find an affordable path to – and through – a post secondary education. uAspire partners with high schools, community organizations, and colleges to provide college affordability advice to more than 10,000 young people and their families every year. Through our work, college-ready students have the support and knowledge they need to overcome financial barriers and succeed in college.
