5th Grade News:
MCAS Season Kicks Off on April 7th!
Tuesday, April 7th begins the Language Arts portion of the
MCAS. It is very important that students arrive at school on
time with a good night’s sleep and having eaten breakfast.
The test will continue on April 8th. Please do not schedule
any appointments during these two days, as the test is lengthy
and takes some students most of the school day. Your child should have a reflection sheet and a file of their
preparation – they've worked very hard on this over the past
three months. Please have a conversation with them about the
strategies they learned in order to do their best. Good luck, fifth
graders!
Autism@FMA
FMA houses the majority of the
Cambridge Public School students with Autism Spectrum Disorder,
and FMA Principal Robin Harris has been a longtime advocate for
students with ASD. “Whether autistic or neurotypical, everyone is
different, everyone is special,” stated Principal Harris, “but more
importantly, at Fletcher Maynard Academy we all sit down and eat at
the same table, we are a family.”
“Our community is at the forefront of so many initiatives and I’m
so proud that Cambridge will be doing its part to shine a light on
Autism,” said Mayor Maher. “We are a city that cares and a city that
knows that Autism touches all of our lives. By transforming one of
our most notable landmarks in Cambridge, we are part of a growing
global community dedicated to understanding and creating awareness
of Autism. ”
“I am thrilled that the Mayor has joined the Autism@FMA Committee
to Celebrate World Autism Awareness Day.” says Susan Gurry,
Chairperson of the Autism@FMA Committee, “In Cambridge, we go
beyond awareness into acceptance and education.”
As part of our annual Autism Awareness Week, the FMA partnered
with City Hall to “Light It Up Blue” this week. We also has our Annual Autism Celebration yesterday in
the auditorium, and then celebrated once again at City Hall yesterday evening!
