FMA Visits Morocco and Portugal
In Lisbon we took a tour of the city that included a trip on the famous tramway line to get up a very high hill. I got to sit in the driver's seat and pretend I was driving the tram. It was fun! - Daeshawn
We went to the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca. It's the largest mosque in Morocco and it was very big! It was interesting to learn more about someone else's culture while we were visiting. - Naseem
On the grounds of the Mosque there was also the Mausoleum of King Mohammed V. It is protected by many Military Guards. Some of them were nice enough to let us take a picture with them. It was pretty cool. - Rehaan
Outside of the city of Meknes we visited a place called Volubilis; which is a partly excavated Roman city. It was fascinating to explore the ruins because the mosaic tiles had stayed there for many, many years and it all the building were handmade. - Calder
MakerSpace
Mr. H is putting together a Makerspace in the basement. The vision is to have a space in the building where students can come in and immediately want to create with LEGOs, K’nex kits, and other building materials. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students recently created marble chutes from pipe insulation, craft sticks, tape, and Dixie cups. Read more >>

Third Grade Learning about Water
Third graders learned about water in “e”inc. We made our own towns where people can live, work, eat, and have no trash in water where they get their fresh drinks.
We learned many things from Mr.Tripp. One thing we learned was that even if you put trash in only one place, it will still travel to our landmark, the ocean. For example, if you put a water bottle in a river, it will still go to the ocean. Also, we learned that trash can injure many kind of animals, even us. Turtles are very endangered because of trash. They usually think it’s jellyfish so they eat them. Lastly, we’ve learned that only 3 percent of water on earth is freshwater. Two percent is frozen in glaciers and only 1 percent are liquid fresh water available for drinking.
In conclusion, “e”inc was fun and we learned a lot of things about water and the environment.
Sincerely,
Yui, Xavier, and Hannah
Fourth Grade Writing Presentation
By: Raul Cruz Jr. and Mrs. Martin
On April 11th, the 4th graders shared their favorite pieces of writing. During the presentation, there were many genres of writing presented. Some students did persuasive essays about uniforms and the pledge. Additionally, there were informational texts shared on the smart board. Many of the texts were very interesting. Students learned about faraway places, sports, and important people.
The 4th graders did an amazing job projecting their voices and not being shy, even the ones that don’t normally speak!
Their writing was outstanding and they worked really diligently! Overall, they had a wonderful presentation!

From the Nurse’s Office
Spring is a good time to update your child’s school health record. Don’t forget to bring a copy of his/her most recent physical exam to the health office. A current physical examination is important for his/her health and safety at school.
The state of Massachusetts also requires an updated physical for all 4th grade students. If your child is currently a 4th grader or will enter 4th grade in September, ask your pediatrician to give you a copy of a “school form” for the health office. You can bring it to the health office, or ask the office to fax it to the health office at 617.349.4393. Parents of 5th graders can bring any health forms to me, or give them to the nurse at the Cambridge Street Upper School in September.
As always, if you have any questions or special concerns, feel free to drop by the health office. I’m happy to help.

Courageous Conversations
Faculty, family, and community members of the FMA met again on Monday evening for the fourth in the series of FMA Courageous Conversations. So far, the group has explored the concepts of racism as a construct, Institutional and Ideological, in alongside interpersonal and intrapersonal racism, and how our implicit biases can lead to microaggressions--subtly racialized behavior that the actor and the receiver may not completely understand or even believe. FMA Basketball Stars
The 4th and 5th Grade Girls Basketball team completed their season on Monday, April 9th. We had the opportunity to play other 'Playworks' schools in Boston each week. Our focus was on building both our skills and understanding of the game as well as developing strong teamwork and communication skills. Coach Caitlin helped to organize the league, and we had an awesome fan base of family members who supported the team each week. We celebrated the end of a successful season at Ben & Jerry's. Congrats to Simia, Seira, Angell, Medisa, Anycia, Kolina, Lily, Phelicia, Betelhem, Sanaya, Nevaiah, Tseyona, and Aliyah on all your hard work!
