FOCRLS

Friends of CRLS (FoCRLS) will be presenting $24,600 in scholarships and awards to the CRLS Class of 2015!
FoCRLS provides opportunities for students, faculty, and grads of CRLS through six programs: Scholarships, Student Travel Fellowships, "Unsung Heroes" Awards, Faculty Innovation Grants, Faculty Distinction Awards, and the "It Takes a Village" College Success Program. Volleyball

Spring Sports Parent Meeting Tonight!
Monday, March 23 | 6 - 6:45PM | Al Coccoluto Gymnasium
At least one parent or guardian of a student participating this Spring should attend the meeting. This meeting is to touch base briefly on Athletic Department policies and procedures and parents also have a chance to meet with their child's coach.


Mount Auburn

Mt. Auburn Hospital Summer Hospital Volunteer Program Applications Now Available
Are you interested in a health care related career? Find out more about careers in health care by volunteering at Mt. Auburn Hospital this summer. The program begins June 29, 2015. All applications will need to be submitted to the Mt. Auburn Hospital by May 5, 2015.

Student volunteers must be at least 14 years of age, have a physical exam, a TB test, a personal interview (before June 8) and be available to work at least one day a week for at least a six week period over the summer.

For an application, please see Mrs. Garman in RM 1308 (near Carpentry) or Jeanne in the CCRC RM 1501.


Boston Glow

Boston Glow Essay Contest
Boston Glow is holding an Essay Contest for girls ages 14-19 focusing on change they would like to see in their community. Last year, they gave out $21,000 in cash and prizes to ten girls. This year's winner gets a $5000 cash prize and an iPad! There are also two $2500 prizes and all ten finalists get at least $1000. The deadline is April 6th! Learn more >>

Carbon Footprint

New Course: Eco-Action (CP)
Hands-on environmental action course being offered for SY 2015-16. ECO-Action offers real-world experience, builds skills for work readiness and is fantastic for your college application! During the course, students will conduct sustainability audits in offices of local businesses to help them reduce their carbon footprint. ECO-Action is multi-disciplinary, including science, math, English (written & oral), and social studies components. Students gain professional communication, report writing, and project management skills. More information on page 53 of the SY 2015-16 Course Catalog. Length: 1 Semester; credits: 10; grades: 9-12

MA Peace Action

Student Media/Art Contest
Make a digital video (2-5 minutes) to energize people to come to Peace & Planet in NYC, Sunday April 26, 2015. The winning videos will be posted on masspeaceaction.org. Design a Poster to be printed and carried at the April 26 March for Peace and Planet in NYC. Prizes for videos and for posters:
1st Prize - $50, 2nd Prize - $250, 3rd Prize - $150, Honorable Mention (4): $25.

Make it fresh and compelling! Deadline April 1, 2015.

Young Women of CRLS! Are you interested in joining your peers in great conversation about relationships? Every Thursday in the Teen Health Conference Room, both lunches.  We provide the pizza, you decide the topics you wish to discuss. Join a great, ongoing group. Girls only, but tell your guy friends about their opportunity every Thursday in the RSTA conference room. Come on your own or bring your friends.

Guys! Are you "hungry" for good conversation? Every Thursday Lunch A or B, come to the RSTA conference room (#1312), for a guys only discussion group about relationships - come enjoy pizza and discussion with fellow CRLS guys. You decide the topics. Come on your own or bring friends.

Calling Interested Parents to Share their Skills, Experience, and Insights
Parents! Please consider sharing your skills, experience, and insights with a CRLS senior who is eager to contribute to your work!

The CRLS Senior Internship Program is currently seeking second semester placements for senior interns. Internship candidates have expressed interest in the following fields, and we would love to hear what else might be out there:

Health Care, Journalism, Fashion, Politics, Human Rights, Business, Science, Physical Therapy, Veterinary Science/Animal Care

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about supervising a CRLS Intern, please contact Kathleen FitzGerald at 617.349.4946. The program runs during 3rd and 4th blocks (12:15 - 2:30PM) Monday - Friday, except alternating Fridays when students attend an in-school seminar, from February through May, 2015. These are unpaid internships.

Free SAT Prep for Juniors
SAT prep is an important opportunity for Juniors planning to apply to college and preparing for the SAT this Spring. This prep course will focus on SAT test-taking strategies and practice tests for math, critical reading, and grammar. Sessions meet Wednesdays from 2:45 to 4:15PM in the Media Cafe area, beginning on February 11 (join anytime). Free pizza.

Upward Bound

MIT/Wellesley Upward Bound Program is Recruiting 9th Graders
The MIT/Wellesley Upward Bound Program provides after school tutoring during the school year and a six-week residential summer program at Wellesley College. Upward Bound offers academic support and college preparation guidance including college tours and senior seminars. Both the school year and summer session offer various recreational and cultural activities and field trips.

in Teaching?

Breakthrough is looking for teachers and tutors for our after school program. You will get hands-on classroom experience teaching and mentoring 6-10 middle school students. Annual City Run (5 mile run, 3 mile walk)

West Cambridge Youth Center: 680 Huron Ave.
Race entry fee is waived for all CRLS athletes. You must get to the race early to register & pick up your bib number. If you are walking the 3 miles you do not need a number.  Pledge sheet will be distribute by coaches the first week of practice week and can be turned in on race day at a FOCA Table in the West Cambridge Youth Center. Athletes pledges go to their spring teams.
