Sarah

Dear Families,

I am pleased to enclose our school’s “report card”. It contains information about school and district accountability, achievement, our students and teachers, and other important measures of school performance.

In this report you will find the following important information about our school:

Student enrollment and teacher quality: This section of the report card provides information about the students and teachers in our school as compared to the district and the state.

Student assessment on Next Generation MCAS: This section of the report shows how our students are performing on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) compared to the district and the state over time.

School and district accountability information: This section of the report contains two important pieces of information:

Accountability and Assistance Levels: Schools and districts are placed into one of five accountability and assistance levels (1-5), with the highest rating being Level 1 and lowest rating being Level 5. Our school has been given an accountability designation of “no level” because students in our school participated in the 2017 Next-Generation MCAS tests for the first time last year. Next year we will receive an accountability level.

All Massachusetts schools are required to have a School Improvement Plan. This plan documents both short and long term goals for school improvement. Three focus areas for our school include: improving instructional practice, improving social and emotional learning and increasing proficiency levels for students categorized as “High needs” in
the areas of math and English Language Arts.

I encourage you to be involved in your child’s education and in helping us improve our school. Some of the ways you can become involved are supporting your child’s learning at home; making sure your child gets to school regularly and on-time, attending parent-teacher meetings and other special meetings; serving as a volunteer in our school or district; and encouraging other parents to become involved.

For more information about our school’s report card, please feel free to contact me at school (617.349.6567).

I hope everyone has a wonderful February vacation week and while you’re relaxing at home over the break, remember to visit the 8th grade online auction -- now LIVE. Items include sports tickets, musical performances, store & restaurant gift cards, vacation rentals, Amigos-themed winter wear and more. You won’t want to miss it!

Sincerely,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Principal

Estimadas familias:

¡No querrán perdérsela!

Atentamente,

Sarah Bartels-Marrero
Directora

Important/Importante

Please be reminded of the protocol for extended vacations. The principal and classroom teachers must be notified in advance of travel dates. All academic work assigned by teachers will need to be made up before, during or after travel. It is also important to recognize that students who miss significant amounts of instruction, learning and assessment may fall behind in their grades. The academic impact of missing school is the same whether the absences are excused or unexcused.
