Participatory Budgeting Opportunity for Students
Good Afternoon Everyone,

Thank you to all of those that participated in and voted in the City of Cambridge's Participatory Budget process. The votes have been tallied, and seven projects will be funded in the coming year, including:
  • 100 Trees for a Cleaner, Greener Cambridge,
  • Critical Resource Kits for the Homeless,
  • Flashing Crosswalks for Safer Streets,
  • Drinking Water Across More Parks,
  • Jade Chain: Living Moss Walls to Combat Pollution,
  • Upgrades to the Gately Youth Center, and
  • New Musical Instructions for CRLS students!
Like the City, this year, CRLS will be administering its own Participatory Budget process, where CRLS students, including you, can decide how to spend $5,000 to improve our school community.

CRLS would love to hear your ideas! Ideas proposed should provide a school-wide benefit to which all students have access. All proposals must comply with the CRLS Student Handbook, Cambridge Public School policies and remain true to the CRLS mission. All current CRLS students are eligible to submit their ideas. A student may submit multiple ideas.

To share an idea, you will need to complete and submit a proposal form via this Google form linkThis form must be submitted no later than February 16, 2018.

CRLS staff and I will initially review all proposals. After this initial review reasonable proposals that meet the criteria will be submitted to a group of student delegates, who will narrow the pool of proposals down to approximately 10. The final proposals will be announced and presented to the all current CRLS students, who will then vote for their favorite. A student may submit a single vote. The proposal(s) with the most votes will be announced and funded.

Should you wish to be part of the review process and become a student delegate, you will need to complete and submit a "Student Delegate" form. I have shared this form with you as well (see link above).

I am looking forward to seeing and reading your ideas!

Please remind your child of this civic engagement opportunity and of the February 16th deadline.

Sincerely,

Principal Smith

Helpful Summer Camp & Gap Resources
Chances are that your families are starting to inquire about enriching summer or gap experiences for students. I want to make sure you are aware that TeenLife.com is an excellent, free resource for these types of experiences. We list more than 7000 programs! Two weeks at a pre-college summer program on a college campus may be all a student needs to open their eyes to what's possible. To search for a program, simply type a special interest in the search bar of our home page, leave the location blank, and click on "Go". Then choose a filter to narrow down the search to Summer or Gap Programs. The more specific the search term, the better, for example Civil Engineering rather than Engineering or Sculpture rather than Art. If the number of listings is too large, conduct the search again with the name of a State in the location field.
