BOOKed for Lunch!

The American Library Association says that children/teens need three things to be successful (and avid) readers; time, choice, and support. The creation of a book club can promote all of these key ingredients. There are several ongoing book clubs in our school libraries during lunch times, giving students the chance to discuss, share their reading and grow as readers. Read more >>

Our CPS social media community is growing! Over
the summer, we created Facebook pages for each school (minus the few that already had a Facebook presence). This is a fantastic tool that adds to the communications mix for each school – it’s such a quick, easy way to share info with families who may not read emails regularly but are on Facebook 24/7. CPS Password Security
In this day and age where identity theft is on the rise, hackers are getting their hands on a data from all kinds of retail stores, online shopping sites, even the postal services site. With these data breaches to user accounts, passwords; credit card information; and other identifiable information are out of secure areas available for purchase or fraudulent uses. Read more >>

Backupify

Google Backup Solution
Cambridge Public Schools has been using Google Docs for Education in the District for four years. We currently have 680,000+ files on the CPS GoogleDocs for Education domain. This large amount of student and staff activity shows us that there is a great need to ensure that all documents are safe and backed up to prevent loss. After researching last spring, we found a Cambridge based company called Backupify. Read more >>

AUTHOR VISITS
BJ Novak, author, actor, and comedian, recently visited Cambridgeport School students from Kindergarten through 3rd grade, to share his new book, The Book With No Pictures!.

On November 3, the Cambridge Public Library hosted Leigh Bardugo. Leigh is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the popular Grisha Trilogy: Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, and Ruin and Rising. Read more >>

Hour of Code

HOUR OF CODE COMES TO CPS IN DECEMBER
The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Anybody can host an Hour of Code anytime, but the grassroots campaign goal is for tens of millions of students to try an Hour of Code during December 8 - 14, 2014, in celebration of Computer Science Education Week.

Sophos

SOPHOS WEB FILTER
ICTS implemented a Sophos Web Filter online this past summer. This new Sophos Web Filter is replacing the Barracuda Web Filter that we had in the district for seven years. With the new web filter we can make internet access more reliable for educational needs.
