Estimadas familias,

Ya que comienza el mes de diciembre, quisiera compartir con ustedes nuestros protocolos de vacaciones extendidas. Si usted piensa viajar con su familia por un periodo extendido, debe de notificar con antelación las fechas de su viaje a la principal y las maestras de salón hogar. Todo el trabajo académico asignado por las maestras debe ser completado durante o después del tiempo de viaje. También es importante reconocer que cualquier estudiante que pierde tiempo significativo de instrucción, aprendizaje y de evaluaciones podría retrasarse en sus calificaciones y progreso académico. Como escuela aspiramos a mantener un índice de asistencia general de 95%.

El 6 de diciembre de 6-7PM nuestra consejera, Srta. Hrobak, y nuestro maestro de salud, Sr. Kantlehner, colaborarán en una presentación sobre cómo apoyar a los jóvenes a navegar las redes sociales. La mayoría de los estudiantes informan que el 90% de los problemas sociales ocurren o empiezan en redes sociales y que los jóvenes están expuestos a ideas mucho más complejas e adultas vía estos medios sociales también. Ellos necesitan más que nunca que los adultos en sus vidas los ayuden a filtrar la complejidad, las responsabilidades y los riesgos que presentan las redes sociales. Espero nos acompañen en esta conversación.

Esta semana los estudiantes del jardín de infantes de Sra. Angela del salón 101, tuvo la gran oportunidad de visitar la estación de bomberos en la calle River. Los estudiantes, padres y docentes extendieron su aprendizaje sobre el valor de la comunidad a través de cómo el departamento de bomberos trabaja en la comunidad. Los estudiantes recibieron un gorro de bomberos plástico ¡que usaron con orgullo de regreso a ala escuela!

Además, en la clase de matemáticas en 6to grado, los estudiantes han estado reforzando sus destrezas de solución de problemas y enfocándose en cómo explicar su pensamiento matemático. Resolvieron y expandieron su conocimiento sobre uno de los problemas de Dan Meyer. Luego, usaron la aplicación de dibujo de Google Draw para modelar sus estrategias y grabar sus videos de tutoría en las que analizaron el problema, explicaron estrategias para resolver el problema e hicieron conexiones con maneras alternas para resolver el problema. Al compartir y ver sus videos de tutoría en Google Classroom, los estudiantes pudieron aprender del trabajo de sus colegas y visualizar nuevas maneras de resolver problemas. Además, ¡gozaron muchísimo!

Dear Families,

As we move into December, I want to share with you our protocol for extended vacations. If you are planning to travel for an extended period of time, the principal and classroom teachers must be notified in advance of travel dates. All academic work assigned by teachers will need to be made up before, during or after travel. It is also important to recognize that students who miss significant amounts of instruction, learning and assessment may fall behind in their grades. As a school, we aim to have an overall attendance rate of 95%.

On December 6 from 6 - 7PM our guidance counselor, Mr. Hrobak and health teacher, Mr. Kantlehner, will collaborate for a presentation on supporting young people to navigate social media. Most students report that 90% of social problems now occur or start via social media and young people are exposed to many more complex and adult ideas via this mode as well. They need the adults in their lives even more now than before in order to filter the complexities, the responsibilities and the challenges social media may present. I hope you will join us for this conversation!

This week the kindergartners of Ms. Angela of Room 101 the great opportunity to visit the Fire Station on River Street. Students, parents, and teachers extended their learning of the value community through how fire department works within the community. Students received plastic fire department hats, which they proudly wore back to school!

In addition, in 6th grade math class students have been bolstering their problem solving skills and focusing on explaining their math thinking. They tackled one of Dan Meyer's highly engaging 3 Act math tasks, but then took it a step further. After solving the problem, they used Google Draw to model their strategies and then recorded screencasts in which they analyzed the problem, explained their solution strategies and drew connections to alternative ways of finding the answer. After sharing their screencasts on Google Classroom, students were able to watch their classmates' screencasts so that they could learn from one another's work and visualize the problem in new ways. They also had a whole lot of fun doing it.

Kindergarten Registration
If your child will be 4 years old on/before March 31, 2018, he/she will be eligible for the September 2018 Kindergarten Class. Kindergarten 2018 Registration for Amigos Siblings will take place at the Amigos School until Friday, January 5, 2018. Please contact Family Liaison Lillian Rater: 617.349.6315 to obtain registration forms and schedule an appointment to register.

From Monday, January 8-31, 2018 you can register your child at the Family Resource Center, 459 Broadway, 02138, telephone: 617.349.6551. Please register by January 31, 2018 so you do not lose sibling preference for the Amigos School. Thank you
